Hi!
I'm trying to install sharepoint 2007EE in a virtual server win2003R2 to access SQLServer 2005 database that exists in the machine (outside the virtual server).
I'm selecting to create a new server farm and when asked to enter the SQLServer I select the real server name and a REALSERVERNAME\SQLService user that I've created.
The system gives: "The username is invalid. The account must be a local account or a global domain account.".
What Am I doing wrong
Thank you,
Jorge

I am facing exactly the same. One Server (2003R2 64Bit) is hosting the SQL Server while I run a 32bit 2003R2 inside a VM.
Right at the beginning after I choose to install a new farm, I get the message "The username is invalid. The account must be a local account or a global domain account.". This happens at the Specify Configuration Database Settings.
The userid is a domain userid, member of the local administrator group and has the necessary rights on the SQL Server instance.
Any ideas
Thanks in advance,
Juergen

Hello Jorge,
Make sure that you do not have any (trailing) spaces after the username you entered. This is a common mistake when using a cut and paste action from an email or document where the account is noted.

My suggestion would be is the VM part of the domain or is it part of a "workgroup".
