Hello colleagues,
who knows what to do when I get this error when trying to search in WSS3 The Sharepoint Central Admin contains the Sharepoint Search Service with status: running, the search DB exists, but when I try searching, I get
...this web site is not assigned to any indexing module...
The translation may not be accurate, which could be the reason of not having found anything using search engines.
I suppose it is something simple, but no ideas...:-) Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot
Ravie

Hi,
I have hade the same problem and I think I know what the problem is, but I don't have a solution to fix it without making a new installation of your webapplication and your website. If anyone else can help us with that I would be most grateful, since we have a rather large customer installation where we can't get the search to work and we don't wan't to build a new site...
After you had installed your wss central administration
1. Start the search service in Central administration.
2. Create a new webapplication - Here you must choose to associate a content database with a specific server that i srunning the Windows Sharepoint Services search service. This is the last option on the bottom of the page for creating a web application.
3. Create a new site-collection and associate it with your web application.
With this soluton I got the search to work properly.
I also got a tips to make a change under:
Central administration/ application management/ sharepoint webapplication management/content databases/
If you choose your content database you will see where to make this association afterwards, but as you also can see, this is locked for changes !!!
Can anyone help us to get this choice box open,
Best regards
Kenth

Here's a another way without having to recreate:
SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration > Application Management > SharePoint Web Application Management : Content databases > [select the content database used by your site] > Search Server : Select Windows SharePoint Services search server

Hello Kenthas,
thank you a lot! I think this is a usable option - it took me only 10 minutes to backup the site using stsadm, create a new Web application, configuring search and restoring the backup to the new web app. Then I only changed aliases in IIS and it WORKS fine!
Thank you once again :-)
