Content Query problem

Hi,

I am having a problem with the Content Query web part and I'm not sure that I am able to do what I want.

Using MOSS2007 in the News area I would like to group the news articles that have come in by the day that they are created and group them this way with the most current days items at the top.

Example of what I would like to see
Monday Feb 19
* News Item 1
* News Item 2
Friday Feb 16
* News Item 1
* News Item 2
Thursday Feb 15
* News Item 1
....

From what I have discovered the only way to group them is by some column and then this column is displayed. So I think I need to have thme group by column x and display column y. Is this possible
