Hi, someone can help me with the parameters that I need to know to make a good compresion with cinevision I would like to know the "standard" parameters for the diferent codecs.
Then, I would like to know what can I do with the materials that I have in a 25Fr per second Digital Betacam. I supouse that I need to transcode the signal to 29,97 720X480NTSC and then capturate with no compression and finally inport to cinevision. Can I have any problem with the continuity of the image if I transcode the signal to 30Fps and then I capturate with 29,97Fps (The transcoder that I use it doesn't works in 29,97, only in 30Fps).
Thank you

Hi,
The first thing you need to do is to capture your source material ( DigiBeta Tape ) as raw RGB 24 .avi file. Then you run that file with Virtual Dub ( I guess that you are familiar with this software if not search through the web for it ) and there you select "Video" -> "Frame Rate" -> "Change frame rate to :" and you set your frame rate to 23.976. After you are finished with that you go to "File" -> "Save as" -> and save you file with the name you want it to have. DON'T FORGET THAT YOU SHOULD NOT COMPRESS THE FILE IN ANY WAY! After you are finished with this manipulation using Virtual Dub you are ready to import your .avi file into CineVison. Don't worry about the 29.97, the CineVision will do the 2-3 PullDown for you so in the end you will have an encode with 29.97 fps. By the way what codec are you using : MPEG-2, VC1 or AVC

Contact MS and ask Ben Waggoner about PEP if you want encode to VC1.
For encoding to AVC you can purchase non expensive (compared to CineVision $50K) encoders MainConcept, Elecard, Ateme.

I have another question, relationated with the noise that it's notoriously visible in the image that I've compressed. I see that in some of the comercial titles in HDDVD that I've seen these noise is present to, but in diferents percentages and it depends with the kind of image (the dark areas are the most problematics).
What can I do to reduce this noise in VC-1 and in the other codecs It's possible that this noise it's a consequence of the film grain that have the master in HDCAM If the problem is the HDCAM, the best solution is taking a correction color room and filtering the noise of the tape and capturate this image filtrated and finally do the compression
I agree any solution with the problem.
Thank you!
P.D.: Sorry for my patetic eanglish, I need to perfectionate it. :P
