Thanks, I think we'll stick to BDMV at the moment unless a customer wants something special. Looking at current Blu-ray discs it seems all of them are made in BD's "standard" mode.

I just can say "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" runs very good on the ps3 but the integrated interactive BD-J game during the movie is a little bit lame because much better features are possible with BD-J

With 3D game and WebLink (webshop link...), it is nice but if you read the two technologie,
you will understand that BD-J have more functionnalities (like application on PC).
BD-J was finalized last year after Cebit, HDi was finalized (most functions and options) in end of 2004.
BD-J is more complex and very hard to use it (limitation of some players,...) than HDi (thank you
at Microsoft for good tool and support ).
I can say only that BluRay is not a bad format but I think HD DVD is not bad too because it is
more simple to replicate it (HD DVD project can be store on DVD disc).

But there is lot of problem with the incompatibilities with hardware player
(the final release of BD-J came from Philips after CeBit in March 2006 .... ).
Samsung player don't play it because it don't support it (and it have not a ethernet
connection, not web, no network).

Speed and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen from Fox have BD-J support, but apparently they don't work very well on the Samsung player. I believe they work OK on the PLAYSTATION 3 and I'm not sure about the other players.
[Added] Descent from Lionsgate also has BD-J, but fails to play in most players.

It is easier for a person new to the format to make their first simple disc with Blu-Print, if you are working on titles daily, Scenarist BD has a far better workflow and is much easier to work with. Also, the menus on Blu-Print look really lousy

BD-J is higher interactivity than HDi, sure.
Now, I read the documentation of all standard (HDMV, BD-J, HD DVD and HDi).
HDMV is better than HD DVD Standard Content, but little less than HDi.
And BD-J is much better (and complex) than HDi. To my mind, the standard of BD-J is true interactivity
(there is some BD title with game on market, but no HD DVD with same interactivity).
The problem of compatibility, it is simple, with BD standard there is lot of hardware manufactor,
so there is some problem with some player. But with HD DVD there is, now, only one manufactor,
Toshiba (I listen the bi-standard player, HD DVD and BluRay, of LG don't suppport HDi....).

Just because there are no HD DVD titles with games on the market (at the moment) and there is one in BD doesn't mean that BD-J is better. I don't think you can do anything more with BD-J that you cannot also do with HDi.

I've checked out Descent from Lionsgate and it seems to work perfectly fine on PS3, I must say it's one of the most sophisticated menus developed in Java... I believe that still the hardware players fail to implement the fully functional BD-J libraries, unlike the PS3, its BD-J performance is flawless, I dont know about networking support, but they seem to have implemented the full BD-J stack just as you expect! :)
The other hardware players (Samsung, Sony, Panasonic) are not fully complaint with the BD-J spec.
Bottomline, buy a PS3! :D

But all BD player (like Sony product) will need to update firmware to support
perfectly the BD-J.
I know that one of first BD disc with H264 and BD-J (french movie OSS117)
is waiting because there is some problem with this two options (H264 and BD-J)
on hardware player.

May be the BDA haven't the tool to test their BD player
No time to valide this tool because HD DVD started product....
With HD DVD it is clear, there is the hardware tool to valide the replication,
the player (with 2 or 3 test disc), the authoring and content.
But all it is not OK for HD DVD too: the tool for 25fps and 50fps is not yet
approved by DVD Forum. It is why the european HD DVD don't play the 25fps
and 50Hz content (and it is why it support directly the 29.97/23.976/60fps content).
And the first european HD DVD, "2046" of Wong Kar Wai, is incompatible
with HD DVD player because it was in 25fps ;)
