What are the best CPUs for Microsofts VC-1 encoder PEP
The official recommendations only tell about dual processors and 3GHz. Does anybody here have experiences with the type of CPU and can say which model exactly does the fastest work Opterons, xeons or core2 duo

The best way it's to have lot of PC on your encoding network.
The encoding process need sometime more than one day (with a smal network
or with small CPU). But it is the best solutions now.
You can do better quality with small bitrate with H264 codec but
you need lot of more time ( 1920x1080 23.976fps at 6.5Mbps
with more than 51-53dB need 10 sec for 1 frame with one 3.4GHz P4 HT
with 2GB DDR2).
The best solution for VC1 coding is from MS;
The best encoder for H264 coding is from Ateme and Mainconcept/Elecard
("sale encoder", H264 encoder from Fraunhofer or NTT laboratory is better: X-pass coding...).
