It would be nice if they would support gadgets on XP. If not, I'll end up having to use either Google or Yahoo.
Personally, I'd prefer Microsoft to be cracking on with Sidebar v2 for Vista, there's so much they can do to improve it. XP SP2 may still be supported by Microsoft but I doubt they will waste their time releasing features for XP that are part of Vista's selling point.
Microsoft originally stated that WPF (or Avalon as it was called then) was only going to be on Vista/Longhorn yet the first public preview only worked on XP in Winter 2004. I'm going to hold my breath for a little while longer.
I have been using the Desktopsidebar from www.desktopsidebar.com for about a month. Running xp sp2. It's been great! Not as gadget capable as Googles desktop sidebar but plenty available on their site.
I'm pretty sure you've got some old information there. Paul's article mentions alternatives to Sidebar that will work on XP, not that Sidebar will be coming to XP. There was speculation about a year ago that Sidebar might make it to XP but since then it seems pretty much decided that the port isn't happening.

The Sidebar is only included with Windows Vista, and there is not a version available for earlier versions of Windows.

If you've got a copy of Vista, you can already run Sidebar on XP with VAIO.
