After a period of several years I’m trying to get back in to VB but I’m having a problem reinstalling from my VB 6 Professional CD. Each time the installation quits near the beginning of the installation, not long after entering my CD Key code and then again well along into the installation up pops the same message that “ODBC’s SQLInstallDriveManager failed”. Upon closing the 2nd message and I’m thrown out of the installation process.
Before beginning the installation, I shut down all running programs in the background by, first, using Windows Task Manager processes tab and ending everything but would still let windows continue to run and, then later, restarting in Safe Mode and trying the install. I’m running Windows XP Home but what has changed is that I now have Service Pak 2 installed. I have Microsoft Excel and Word 2000 installed but not the entire Office 2000 package (so there is no Access installation, with its SQL machine to interfere).
I’m running out of ideas as to what my problem might be. Would appreciate any and all suggestions you might have. If it involves upgrading my older CD, could someone advise how I would go about doing that. The only thing I see referenced under products currently seams to involve VB.Net. Thanks.

Problem Reinstalling VB6

If you are beggining again, I would suggest dropping the VB6 option and moveing to VB.Net at the moment there have been 3 new versions since the vb6 system. To get you started you can use the free VB.Net Express system, you can use this system free of charge and develop applications that you can release commercialy.
Have a look at the Express Home Page.

These forums are for VB.NET and there are better places to find answers for older versions of VB. Maybe the
VB6 newgroups - http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx dg=microsoft.public.vb.general.discussion&lang=en&cr=US
Or perhaps the VB6 resource center
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbrun/
or perhaps www.vbcity.com may be useful places to search for answers on VB6 related questions.
I would suggest ditching the VB6 and downloading the VB Express from the microsoft web site for free and using this. Its the latest technology and your then in the right place to ask questions in this forum.
Hopefully this helps.
