VS2005 with VB 6.0 Installed

Hi,

I installed VS2005 in a PC that already had VB 6.0 installed. Now whenever I open VB 6.0 a message "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition - ENU" appears and then it will ask for the cd. What is it trying to do Will there be any conflict between the 2 IDEs

I, too, am having the same issue. I just have to hit cancel on the install and then the VB6 project launches. It is annoying, but have to live with it. I have tried several times to insert the CD and continue. The machine then crunches for a VERY long time and finally launches my VB6 project. Nothing changes in the project or IDE that I can see. Subsequent launches of the same project asks to repeat the install/configuration. I am launching the project by double clicking the vbp file. I also get the message on performing a straight launch of VB6 from the start menu.

I installed VS2005 after installing VS6. Other installed programs: Office 2k Premium, SQL 7, 2 instances of SQL 2005.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I also have had that issue. In my installation stack, there was first Visual Studio 6, then IBM Rational software, then Visual Studio dot net 2005. Before the install of dot net, everything was fine. Then I installed dot net, and had those problems. Then I uninstalled Rational, and Visual Studion was messed up. I had to uninstall it, then reinstall it. I have seen the same problem with HP Mercury software. I think some software installs hooks in the registry, they redirect calls to their software. Microsoft thinks their install is not correct and wants to run it again, and again, but if you let it run, it fails after a looong time, and still needs to run (again!). If the mercury software is not running, on my system, there is one less attempt to install dot net that I have to cancel.

I had this happen with VS2003. It turned out it was wanting to install FrontPage Extensions for some reason. Once I got this issue cleared up, by uninstalling and reinstalling, the problem went away.

Not sure what it is trying to do or why you are having this issue. VB6, VB.NET 03. and VB.NET 05 are all capable of side by side installations. Try putting in the cd as suggested and see if it will take care of the issue

Right - there should be no conflict between the IDEs. They are intended to work together, and I've been doing this successfully for years.

If you continue to have problems could you please enter a bug on msdn.com/productfeedback Somebody will look into your issue once they have the necessary info.

The other thing you can try is uninstalling and reinstalling VS2005.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Thanks,

    Paul
