Whoever tells you you cant learn VB.Net 2005 without learning VB6 or C is really feeding you a lie.

VB and VB.Net has always been about being simple to learn and use. BASIC is designed for beginners and VB.Net 2005 is absolutely no different. VB.Net 2005 introduces a number fo advanced object oriented features which you can use but learning other VB6 will not help as this version didnt include them and C, C++, C# will bring little to you VB.Net development as the syntax is different.

If you want to use the Object Oriented features of VB - learn the concept and learn the VB syntax.

A simple search on the keyword Learning in both this forum and the VB Forums will reveal many interesting general learning resources.

    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Search/Search.aspx words=learning&localechoice=9&SiteID=1&searchscope=forumscope&ForumID=159

    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Search/Search.aspx words=learning&localechoice=9&SiteID=1&searchscope=forumgroupscope&ForumGroupID=10

This will detail, Web links/books/videos etc. all sorts of learning resources that have answered the exact same question that you have asked.

You can then chose the resources at the appropriate level for yourself. Also just a search through sites such as MSDN will reveal a host of information as will the help files.

You don't have to know about VB6 or C++ in order to learn VB .NET 2005. Once you start to learn VB .NET you will see that the basics are really easy to understand. Although VB .NET is easy to learn it is a very powerful language with wich you will be able to create professional applications in a very short amount of time.

Another reason why I would not learn, for eample c++, if you wan't to learn VB. NET is that the syntax and a great number of other things are really different. So learning both would not make much sense. So, I would advise you to start with VB 2005. For simple applications, you do not have to know everything about OOP, just the basics.
