Strange Outlook 2007 POP3 Behavior & Slowness

Outlook 2007 is sending "AUTH "<crlf> as the first command to POP3 servers.

This confuses the server and on some, causes a 3 second delay! Thus:

2007.01.02 13:04:47 POP3 (mira.net): Connected to host
2007.01.02 13:04:47 POP3 (mira.net): +OK POP3 Ready mailproxy2 0001bff0
2007.01.02 13:04:47 POP3 (mira.net): Authorizing
2007.01.02 13:04:47 POP3 (mira.net): [tx] AUTH

** note 3 seconds later **

2007.01.02 13:04:50 POP3 (mira.net): -ERR Mate, the command must be one of
CAPA, USER, PASS or QUIT

Only Outlook 2007 does this. OL 2003 / OL Express / Windows Mail (Vista & Longhorn Server) all send "USER" which is correct.

So why is OL 2007 sending "AUTH "  Most POP3 servers "out there" choke on this command. Some - as in VERY FEW POP3 server packages actually understand "AUTH " and return a list of Auth protocols that they can handle.

For now however it seems that sending the AUTH is causing headaches for 95% of the POP3 servers on this planet.

Also, Outlook 2007 hangs for many seconds at a time when I check my email. Mail that used to arrive in a minute on OL 2003 now takes 7 minutes to download.

All, this is very bad - I can only hope MS patches this before it makes CNN headlines.

Thanks,

Ring0

This is causing myself and many others headaches as well. I have been searching for a solution for using Outlook 2007 on XP and have not found one. There is a solution, I believe, floating around for OL2007 on Vista.

I am getting entirely frustrated with Outlook hanging my entire system for 5-10 seconds while doing Send/Receives.
