Besides removing this feature from Office during setup, is there a process to remove this virtual printer from 300 users with roaming profiles on an active directory network We are having an issue with this printer assuming the "default printer" selection for our users. As a work around we have changed their default printer, but after they reboot or log off / on it has defaulted back to the MS Ofc doc and image writer printer.

MS Office document and image writer print driver

A little bit different problem here. I was using this Microsoft Document Imaging Writer port (virtual printer) for quite some time to print what ever screen/file into a image file (mdi/tif format). This virtual printer was missing from the printer folder without I noticed it.
I followed the instructions posted in this discussion to add back the virtual printer by selecting the "Generic / text only", change in printer property to select "Microsoft Document Imaging Writer port". I added the virtual printer successfully.
But, I was not able to print out a mdi format file. It only able to print out a tif format file. I tried to change in property->Advance tab, change output format from tif format to mdi format. After i click print, nothing come out.
FYI. If select output tif format, it is working fine output a tif file like what i experienced before.
Please advice.

Hello,
I have the opposite problem. I have users who have had the icon for the Office Document Image Writer deleted under Printers and Faxes. You mention above that it is easy to reinstall the virtual printer. Could you point me to the directions for reinstallation please
Thanks for your help.

So I deleted the one I created..... But
I can not find the "Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Driver", not on my PC, not on windows update, so please help me find the driver.

Per our support engineer:
Thanks for using ISV Community Forum, according to your problem, I’m wondering whether you can simply log on the machine as administrator and delete the virtual printer (just select the icon and press del key) in Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes, after the deletion, the virtual printer will no longer appears in each user’s profile. Of course, since you’ve already installed feature, you can easily recover the virtual printer without reinstallation.
