Anyone,
I an only 15 years old but I regard myself as a beginner in C# programming.
My dad bought me a copy of Visual C# 2003 and I have been reading nothing but good things about Visual C# 2005 but I can't buy it! I live in Australia and it seems that Microsoft in their wisdom do not sell this product but only the full Visual Studio 2005 that I have no hope of affording at all.
My first question is this - why can't I buy Visual C# 2005 in Australia
I would also like to ask another question. Why can't I print the contents of a RichTextBox in Visual C# 2003 There is a solution on the knowledgebase that I simply can't follow. Maybe nobody else can because third party providors produce PrintAdapters, PrintForm and PrintControl seem to thrive. Why doesn't Microsoft simply publish a control so I can print the control The knowledgebase article is simply too confusing for me.
I really would like an answer to both these questions without the sales jargon and area model stuff - stick to answers that I can understand please.
Justine.

Where can I buy Visual C# 2005 Standard Edition in Australia?

I know the post is a little off topic, but as I am also an Australian I thought i better help.... Yes you can purchase most of the visual studio packages in Australia, the only one that you can not is the Express package. I hear that it comes out with a wrox book so in turn soon you will be able to also get the express code.
But as to places to buy the product you should try Harris Tech (www.ht.com.au) or Office works as they hold the product.
I did try to get you email address to email you directly but was unable to find it, if you do want to get in touch with me you can get my details from the group or my blog.

No worries, Justine. Like I said, come back and ask specific questions if you're stuck on a programming task again.

Hi Justine. You've asked two questions here, the first is off topic in these forums ( that is, where can I buy C# 2005 ). You need to contact your local Microsoft office and ask them this question, these forums are for programming questions only.
Do you realise that C# Express Edition is free
As for the second question, the knowledge base article works, if you can't follow it, that means you need to do some more basic study in C# so you can follow the article. Perhaps if you change the header of this question to reflect your Rich Text Box question, and most some more specifics, we can help you.
Just to be clear, I'm a moderator on these forums, and if you had not asked the rich text box question, I would have marked this post off topic, which would mean it would be deleted. So, I'd appreciate it if you could change your post to pursue the part of your question that's relevant. And also, the people who answer you ( mods included ) are mostly not Microsoft employees. If I knew what Microsoft's policy was on C# Standard Edition, I'd happily tell you, even if I had to mark the post off topic. That's why you're better off calling the local office, they will actually know the answer.

Hi all,
Firstly I want to say sorry for my post being off topic and that I probably didn't try hard enough with the solution to printing richtextboxes.
Maybe you could get rid of the original post and I'll reread the article in the knowledgebase and try it again with the help of one of my teachers.
At the start of this year I asked dad about C#2005. He went to Dymocks and Harris Technology and both said that Microsoft will not be retailing it in Australia. Microsoft also said so to dad in an email. Maybe Microsoft have warmed to selling it here because the full studio is way out of my price range so I'll ask again when I get home.
I don't mind paying for something that is worth while and I'm glad I'm away from Basic but I only have a modem and from what I have read the express doesn't have help.
Thanks for your kind help,
Justine
