Hi,
Just got a new PC and installed VS 2005 on it. Works fine but everytime I start VS2005 it acts like it is the first time it ever started.
Get a dialog that says, "Microsoft Visual Studio is configuring the enviroment for first time use."
Not sure what to make of this
Any thoughts
Thanks
Jeff

VS2005 Startup

Hi ahmedilyas,
When I followed your steps it brought up that same pop-up.
When I run VS sometimes it brings up that startup popup and sometimes is does not.
The install went fine. I am on XP Pro.
Not sure how to create another user account though.

Hi ahmedilyas,
I believe it is working now. As a habit, maybe a bad one, I seldom log-off the PC, just lock it. I logged off and logged back on, it syncronzied some files that it claimed were out of sync between my PC and the network. I have started VS a number of times now it seems OK.
Thanks for the help.

Hi there.
This is interesting. Can you see if resetting the settings will work Be warned that when you do this, that dialog will come up again but hopefully it won't after. To do so:
open the visual studio command prompt (from the start menu, all programs, visual studio 2005, tools)
then:
devenv /resetSettings
does this work
Some AV software tracks changes made but then restores it back for some bizzare reason, so disable it as an extra step and see what happens.
Did the whole installation procedure go ok for installing VS2005
out of curiosity, which OS are you running XP WS2003 Vista
By any chance could your user account profile be corrupted What happens if you create another user account and run VS2005 Does it still show the configuration settings dialog on every run

well sounds like its better than what it was before I believe.
To create a new user account in Win XP, go to start > control panel > user accounts then create a new user account with admin access
