Mobile 5 SDK for Pocket PC install hangs

Tried for hours to get Mobile 5 SDK for Pocket PC to install. The original problem was that my McAffe was stopping various scripts from executing. The install hung after McAffe stopped the scripts. Then, after I turned off the McAffe script analyzer, the SDK tried to rollback and attempt another install, but those installs eventually hung. By "hung" I mean the install wasn't using disk or CPU, there was nothing after the word "status" above the "progress indicator", and the "progress indicator" didn't progress. The "remove" option also hangs. Help

Not really as it worked for me several times on not so clean systems. Just wanted you to try and save some time, that’s it.

Cool! I created a Device Application project and it drew a device in the Forms Designer window. I guess everybody says this when they first see it, but it REALLY is cool looking.

You're afraid the install for Mobile 5 SDK Pocket PC won't run on a clean system either.

I'm glad it worked out for you.

You should see WM 5.0 specific projects in VS 2005 if SDK was installed as it should. Just create new WM 5.0 project and see if it runs on WM 5.0 emulator.

Thanks, this sounds like what's happening. Could be System Mechanic. Anyway, here's the thing, this computer is like only a month old. My old computer is still up (for Ipod). I'm thinking I should fall back to my old computer and completely redo the new computer. I plan to restore the new computer from the install disks, then install the mobile stuff right after that, before activating any 3rd party software. My questions are: 1) My OS is XP Home Edition version 5.1. Is this OS ok for mobile 5 software 2) My planned install order is ActiveSync, followed by Visual Studio 2005, followed by mobile 5 SDK for Pocket PC, followed by mobile 5 SDK for Smart Phones, followed by local MSDN. Is this install order ok Thanks. Sorry I got upset earlier, I'm not mad at anybody, just upset that the problem is occurring.

Yes, XP HE is fine for WM 5.0/VS 2005 development.

But before you do all that, consider killing blocked script via task manger as I described above. It won't make things worse for sure but might save you some time.

Also disable "System Mechanic" whatever that is just in case.

Yes, I uninstalled McAffe and rebooted. However, the repair/re-install hung at the exact same spot. The irony is that the McAffe software uninstalled and re-installed flawlessly, whereas this useless Microsoft VaporWare doesn't install, nor does it uninstall. Nor can I get useful help.

uninstall mcaffee then reboot the system, yes reboot, then repair/re-install the product of VS

Short of actually deinstalling McAffe, McAffe was turned off and disabled. All of McAffe's advanced things were all turned off and VirusScan itself was disabled. Yet, the install hung during a "repair" installation. First, it did "status: copying files" and ran the progress indicator to the end. Next, it did "status: deleting backup files" and ran the progress indicator to the end. Then, the install hung, with the progress indicator wrapped to the end and nothing after the word "status". I took a bath after it hung and it was still hung after the bath. Should I have taken a shower a sauna a cruise to Jamaica Please help.

The install went fine. I dunno, it's just more convincing to me when the install runs clean. I wanted to start over. I ditched McAffe for Zone Alarm 15 day trial. Regarding the mobile 5 SDKs, is there a quick test I can run in Visual Studio 2005 that will prove the SDKs installed ok

You must have something else blocking the script. Some spy/adware blocking software, perhaps

Anyway, you might be able to terminate process installer is waiting on (probably cscript.exe, but compare processes list before and during installation). After setup is finished, run script manually as described here:

disable Mcaffe completely, its what Mcaffe does best at stopping products (esp MS products) to install
