The robot invaders contest (www.robotinvaders.com) is closed for new entries, so all bots are in. A total of 51. With $40.000 in prizes, everybody of course wants to win. But which bot do you think will make a good chance
The prizes:
Grand prize (1): AlienwareR MJ-12 7550 Workstation
First Prize (1): BoseR LifestyleR 48 DVD Home Entertainment System
Second prize (5): AlienwareR Sentia M3200 System
Third prize (10): GarminR nuvi 360
User's choice: 80 GB USB Portable Drive / DX1 Input System / LED Binary Watch
The bot with the most votes on September 15th gets the user's choice award. It looks like that would be "samplebot@hotmail.com " with a total of 412855 votes! Amazing.
Last time I talked to that bot though it could only repeat what I said, nothing special, pretty disappointing. I think the developer of that bot should put his time in making his bot useful instead of getting all his friends to vote a thousand times. But that's my personal opinion.
Keep in mind the judging criteria:
User interaction (25%);
Usefulness (25%);
Creativity (25%); and
Use of Windows Live Services (25%)
I think the Virtual Secretary bot will have a good chance. It is original and can even be useful.
So who did you vote for and who do you think is going to win

SmarterChild isn't submitted for this contest, is it Spleak is. They are both very good and already excisted before this contest. So it makes me wonder if Spleak is made with one of the provided SDK's
Spleak is good, but because it wasn't made for this contest I wouldn't want it to win. There are very good bots made especially for this contest.
The "Live Bot" still isn't in the robotgallery I saw it on gallery.live.com, but it hasn't appeard online yet.
I'm of course also proud on my "perfect boyfriend bot" which has pretty descent AI without using any kind of AIML. It learned most of it's replies from the users that are talking to him. Pretty fun to watch the conversations :)

I haven't had a chance to look at InvestWiser. Mother Nature is excellent! I really like that it makes use of Virtual Earth. I like the parks locator also. Great job!
Check your logs, I was having difficulties with option #3 not loading the activity report. I noticed that Windows Live during certain operations can max out the CPU over 78%. I've found that returning large text strings can cause this. I recoded parts of my bot to return smaller strings. This has sped up responses quite a bit. What's interesting is Windows Messager 4.7 has virtually no delays. Let me know what you find out. I will test it again.
Thanks for posting. It's been a couple of weeks since anyone has posted here. Let's keep the discussions going.

How did you all like InvestWiser and Mother Nature I think we have a wonderful set of bots there competing. Most of the entries were planned and great ideas!!
Good luck to all.

And it is designed by a company, it is available since the beginning of the year. Why this kind of bot has been allowed to participate in the contest
Otherwise I've voted for Virtual Secretary and Quiz Master Bot (yes they are my little babies...

Was sample bot made by microsoft The fact that it's called samplebot, has the same logo as the site and was up early in the competition would suggest so.
I quite liked spleak bot for its chat capability but it doesnt really use the activity window.
Looking forward to see the LiveBot!
I voted mostly for myself

I'm actually really impressed. I like how easy it is to navigate. Very useful bot! Great job Riaanvs. You are pioneering a technology that could be the future of how we shop on the Internet. Now what would be really cool is if your activity window could serve as checkout for a shopping cart. That would take it to a level where no bot has gone before.
I also like how when it's searching from travel it comes up with your logo and progress bar!!!! Very professional!

Thank you ZAKIE
I did not recognize that #3 was giving trouble. What version of messenger did you use I will test again. But i was little confused by the rules which said that "without subsequent modifications" hence i did not want to touch the bot after submission for the contest.
Thanks again for all your testing and feedback. I agree with you that the post should keep growing. I will check the the bot and logs and send you more update.
Good luck to you too.

Thanks Jeek :)
That was a great comment. I contemplated on that myself, unable to scale it for a specific size!! Attempt 2, i would do it a little better. Maybe after the "modification" restriction is lifted, I would correct that. But a great suggestion.
The National parks are a big part of US vacation. Next time you are here, I could help you find more than just US parks.
Thanks for you valuable suggestions. What is your bot's name Jeek

The bots I have been most impressed with are:
Gwaam Bot - Is incredible, I'm amazed with the interaction while the game is being played. Very innovative.
Smarter Child - The AI is excellent.
Virtual Sec - Excellent original concept
Spleak - Is excellent, it looks like this bot has full blown corporate sponsorship behind it as it is featured on MSN's list of bots within Messenger.
DFWEBBOT - is fun also
I would say my own bot which is EncourageBot but I definately give praises to other bots in the contest.

Yeh its a right pain that we aren't allowed to modify our bots since the 15th Sep, so much I'd like to add!
Liked you bot Kushi, its a shame I'm not from the US so I cant use it! Maybe on my next trip over there
I entered the example zip code, looks good.
If I may make one suggestion, and this is true of a great many bots I think, is to try and format the activity content better. When using the virtual earth activity on your mother nature bot, if my activity window is large, the map doesn't scale up to fit it. I know its impossible to scale everything as the activity window can be used for so many things like maps, html and so on and most users may prefer a small activity window, but I think a page desinged to fit and scale to the activity window irrespective of size looks so much better than a static one or a very large one designed for normal browser viewing that you can only see the corner of in the activity window.
Just my 2 cents.
