computer freezes and crashes?

I installed VE3D today and experimented a little bit with the ActiveX control as well as with the VE3D view inside local.live.com. And my computer froze 3 times (num lock and so on unresponsive), so I had to reset, and resetted once by itself while navigating in the 3D world - the first 4 absolute crashes of Windows XP in 2 years that I see.

The stuff is still beta, right Does anybody else has these problems Any idea what to do against it I actually wanted to develop something with VE3D, but it gets a little bit difficult if the computer locks up or reboots on every second test.

I don't think Norton antivirus or webroot antispy are the problem--this computer came with those...so I removed my free download of spybot search & destroy and I have left on WinPatrol another free add on. But no luck--

Sometimes the 3D loads like lightening and works fine but like I said 99 time out of 100 it just freezes up the computer.

I couold be that its because its a beta. I'm just guessing

RE: Trouble downloading Virtual Earth 3D beta.

I had installed htis program without any problem a few weeks ago..it worked beautifully but now I get a window that forces me to UNINSTALL beta 3D...I have updated drivers for my nvidia 7300 card..could it be my additon of Spybot Search & Destroy or my addition of WinPatrol..the system came with NORTON 2007 and Webroot antispyware.

What is making the program freeze up

Thank you kindly for any time you can spare to help me solve this problem.

Since it was working for him previously, I think all the system settings are probably OK.

I would suspect the installation of the programs you mentioned as the blocking issue. Many anti-spyware or security programs can interfere with the operation of 3D. Because 3D is a control that loads in the browser and makes lots of network requests, security programs often interfere with it. The initial release only detects that the 3D control failed to load and so shows you the install page (which isn't very helpful because as you noted running install only offers the uninstall option).

The next control release will detect that the control is installed but is unable to load. This won't help solve your problem, but will at least tell you something's wrong. I would suggest checking the settings for the security programs you installed, and make sure they're not interfering with IE loading controls.

Complete hangs like that are almost always due to issues with drivers on the system.

On restart, Windows crash analysis will often report which driver was the cause. You can download updated drivers from windows update or the hardware manufacturer's website.

Some questions on the Virtual Earth help you may want to go through:

    http://help.live.com/help.aspx mkt=en-us&project=wl_local&querytype=keyword&query=qaf

under "How do I turn on 3d Acceleration" you might want to check if you have direct3D and directDraw enabled. Also might want to try removing Location Finder and then re-installing it.

Another problem may be that your CPU may not meet the minimum requirements to run VE. A search on "System Requirements" on the help link should do be able to lead you to the right spot.

Kind sir...I would glady do that for you if it would help you solve this problem but I am afraid I don't know how to do that...what I do know is that on rar and I mena very rare occasions the 3d function loads in and fast,,,but 99 times out of 100 it just sits there and the task manager shows the program is using all the cpu...OK I'm a newbie OK so I don't know all the ling or the theory..

perhaps you could ask me the other questions and I could further define that problem..which is essentially it freezes when I click on 3D
