UPDATE MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 8

Do you mean update from previous VS version (e.g. 2003) to VS 2005 That you can purchase from your local reseller.

There are no fixes available and won't be for a while. Also the fact your application does not work does not necessarily means there's an issue with VS 2005 which is used in many other projects quite successfully. I use VS 2005 almost every day and it sure is ready. As with anything, is has some issues, but nothing average developer can’t handle.

Perhaps something's not right with your code which might be known working on some other platform but needs to be ported and changed in order to work on PPC. In most cases you don’t just grab some code, recompile it and run it on a new platform, you need to tweak and fix it before it would work, process known as "porting".

Anyway, if you believe you have found a bug in VS 2005, it won’t be fixed unless you’ve reported it. You can do that via product feedback site below. Please make sure to include complete and compliable repro code or full VS 2005 project along with description of expected and actual result as well as all relevant software (VS and OS versions) and hardware (e.g. device make/model) information.

I’ve just looked up your other posts and it appears issues you're experiencing have nothing to do with VS.

If you have no issues to report, what kind of fixes you expect If you new to Windows CE development, I’d say training is in order to get you up to speed and get you unblocked.

Sounds like you do have corrupted installations. There was a special tool to remove beta, if you did not used it your installation might be corrupted:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/support/uninstall/default.aspx

    Here's what I would suggest:

    1. Remove VS 2005.

    2. Follow VS 2005 beta removal procedure above.

    3. Install VS 2005 again.

What do you mean by "activate my smart devices" There's nothing to activate, just select "New project", choose "Visual C++", choose "Smart device" and choose template you want, that's it.

If that does not work (how exactly that does not work No item to select VS crashes Nothing happens Something else ), you probably have corrupted installation, e.g. because VS 2005 Beta was not removed correctly. You'd probably need to remove VS, follow beta removal procedure and install it again.

There also was an issue reported with beta version of IE7, so remove it if you have it.

My 2 cents: Uninstall the VS2005 completely and reinstall it again. That might help you ;-)

im not looking for an update, im looking for the fixes to microsoft visual studio 8. in my copy, nothing works. i guess there must be a reason for that. i figure there is a master array, that contains switches, that can be toggled on or off, for different configurations. if the system works the way i assume, there are arrays that can be set for all users. if you feel mvs8 is not ready, i guess ill just wait. at least tell me when to expect the release. your the people that know whats best for mvs8. except, i feel you should not sell a product that isn't even able to complete what you promised.

i have a known working program, that i want to put on a pocket pc. if mvs8 was switched on i could debug the vc++ part of msv8. you and i r just spinning our wheels right now. i feel now is the time to turn on some features. don't you. for last six weeks i have been chasing blocks. im asking you, do you think msv8 is ready. it was the same for eight weeks on the beta test. i can beta test if i had something to test. ill be more than happy to fill you in on what i find.

i just want my smart devices activated. when i was using my beta version i could not activate my smart devices, such as C++ -> smart devices -> any application. i have been using a purchased mvs 2005 package for 6 weeks and i still can not activate my smart devices. it's beyond my comprehension why!!! i get frustrated trying to activate my smart devices. this is the main reason i bought microsoft, besides many other reasons. i should be able to click c++, smart devices, and win32 to get there. except i can not.

My 2 cents: Do a complete uninstall of VS2005 and reinstall it again. That might help ;-)

You don't, at least not until it's released, then it would be on Microsoft’s web site.

Also, please see see this, item #1:

im sort of pressured by the boss. deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. i have gone as far as i can until i get a new release, so i will slide the mile stone to some future date. it would be nice to have a number of days to fill in. anyhow the boss is mad because this is not done. do you release changes on cd. all i have is a modem, and a modem is very slow compared to cable. i'll check this post for any further details.

would you like me to post what i have found in the least seven weeks. most of it is common and very little has to do with software problems. just a matter of figuring out how mvs works. which everyone will sooner or later figure out.

danielmoth is inspiring. good blog. hope this better.

im glad to hear there r working vs 2005 systems. i have no bugs to report only blocks for testing purposes. thats how we tested back in the 70's, with blocks. sort of hunt and peck your way through the code to find the blocks and note anything that popped up. we did it with opcodes, which are the numerical representation of commands, such as eof, rar, ral, lda, ldb. lda = opcode "032"

my program all ways needs tweeking to a new system, i would like to get smart devices running on my machine, so i can get to the pocket pc and download to my handheld. i have had my program for twenty years. it worked under ms c++, norand handheld, 8080, 8280, 8380,pentium, and others. its a good test, for datadases, reading and writing files, screen manipulation, searching data fuctions,an some others.

    ill sell you a copy

ive been running into blocks for 15 weeks, now. i have not found any bugs, just blocks. i am really glad to hear vs2005 is working at your site.

can u please look at my sight and see y i can not get to c++ -> smartdevices -> any application.

    mvs8 all the way!!!!!

i followed the procedure from msdn and i thought i got all the files this time!!!  i was missing sql server 2005 edition and MSXML 6,0 PARSER. i thought this would work.... i get the same results as described before.

i looked at my     tools bar  -> device tools. i get a message "an error occured loading this property page".

Also when i enter VB -> smart device, i get the message "the project could not be opened because it refers to a device platform that does not exist in your datastore. i assume that the platform is ZL18xx.  i was using CE 5.0 at the same time i was using mvs beta. i was checking out platforms built by CE 5.0, for what ever reason, and one of the happened to be ZL18xx. now the platform name shows up in mvs 2005.

i believe this is source of the problem. i do not know what to do. im going to look around my disk for left over CE 5.0 files..

please let me know if u can figure this out.

is there a class on formatting the disk, restore will not help my situation

can i set the boot platform sdk from mvs2005

i select "visual c++", i choose,"smart device", i choose any template. i wait 30 seconds and i get small window that says "microsoft visual studio" "ok". thats it. this happens on all the templates

i had a beta test installed. i used the beta test uninstall to remove it. i removed all the files on the remove list. i tried to used the beta uninstall now, and it does not see any removable files

i like to believe the idea that the VS 2005 beta still has a file on the disk. i just reloaded vs 2005 twice and i have to same problem. ive reloaded before 15 times and i have the same problem

i sometimes get the message"zl18xx platform has no devices"

zl18xx was a directory on my vs2005 beta. which is long gone. i can not find zl18xx anywhere on my disk, except it shows up when i new build a project.
