I have an Acer computer and went to the link above. Unfortunately i'm not exactly a computer genius so had no idea what it was on about. Can anyone help me out
Okay, I'm going a little crazy here. I just got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. But like everyone else out there, DEP keeps closing my windows live messenger when I attempt to log in. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling reinstalling, running as administrator.....nothing seems to work. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be GREAT!
I’ve just updated my flash to version 9,0,28,0 on a Vista Home Premium. I've ticked Messenger to run it as an administrator. Eventhough DEP is shutting the program down.
Many thanks for the link....I have acer aspire 9303wsmi......I wasted two hours yesterday......and Bingo....5 minutes on google and found the solution...... Hundred thousand thanks...
I tried this, but when I click on the advanced tab, those options are greyed out, even though I am the adminstrator on my computer, is there a way to ungrey them
I'm having the same problem with all versions of msn. I upgraded to Flash 9,0,28,0 - no change. I tried the 'run as administrator' workaround mentioned above and the box is grayed out, so I cannot use this solution. I tried going into system>advanced>performance>settings>DEP and manually adding the msn executable to the allow list but vista tells me that this program must be run with DEP enabled. Running vista home premium.
I'm sorry, but this is just funny. Why would microsoft release vista when its own programs don't work on it. This is a clean install too - straight out of the box.
DEP blockin Live Messenger 8.1

This is usually caused by an older version of Flash that has a bug which crashes under DEP. If you upgrade flash, things should be fine.
If upgrading flash doesn't help, please let me know so we can look into it.

I cured this problem on my Vista Home Basic install:
1) Right click on the Messenger shortcut icon on your desktop;
2) Click on Properties;
3) Click on the 'Shortcut' tab;
4) Click on the 'Advanced...' button;
5) Put a tick in the 'Run as Administrator' box & click OK.
I have no idea why this works but I can use Messenger Live now without DEP closing the app.
Hope this helps, Jules.
