Why does Emulator seem to drop the network connection after 1-2 minutes

I had spoken too soon to regards to the ability to ping my emulator instance.

It works great in the first 1-2 minutes and then seems to drop out. I did install the virtual network driver as suggested yesterday and that gave me the initial capability. Is there a known issue with the CTP arm emulator that I don't know about

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Why does Emulator seem to drop the network connection after 1-2 minutes

    Hello Andrew,

I had this one installed so I tried this and browsed on the Internet Explorer without issue.

I can't seem to run MSPrompt at least in the default emulator so I run ipconfig /all to determine the ip address.

    Any thoughts

Thanks for helping me establish a baseline :)

Sorry I can explain in more detail:

First to preface, I had trouble trying to ping even my host computer from the emulator and vice versa. I had given information in the following:

are you running the virtual machine network driver

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx familyid=DC8332D6-565F-4A57-BE8C-1D4718D3AF65&displaylang=en

so I loaded this and tried it. In the first roughly 1-2 minutes, I can ping my host computer and vice versa. After that time, it stops and that is all I am trying to do at this point.

I am invoking from the VS2005 environment so I am using the Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0 Beta - Community Technology Preview.

Hopefully this is better detail :)

Sorry about the confusion with starting a second but I thought we did complete success last time.

Just to make sure I am doing whjat you are suggesting correctly, can you please let me know exactly which emulator you are asking me to try.

    Thanks for your help :)

Bob, I'd asked about the WinCE emulator in the other thread ... write a simple ping for it, and give it a try, I'd be curious to see if you experience the same outcome. If so, I'd guess you have a hardware issue ...

    Thanks Bob for information.

I tried ping with PPC03 SE image from Host computer to Emulator for roughly 4 mins and it worked ok.

As you said you are trying to ping host computer from emulator, what is the utility you are using to achieve so Can you point me to that location Also, please let me know which image you are using

    -Thanks,

    Hello Mohit,

    Thanks for your reply :)

I am in the process of getting the MSI compressed file in a place where you can get at it.

    I will email you then.

    Have a great day :)

Thanks for your thoughts Andrew :)

    I appreciate the efforts.

Anybody from the emulator team reading this, can you please let me know whether or not if there are known issues with the Arm CTP Emulator and network connectibity

    Thanks :)

I think we may have reached the limit of my useful input here ... not a big emulator guy. Good luck in chasing down the issue!

This is a bug in DeviceEmulator binaries. Fix should be available as part of next release of Device Emulator.

    Thanks for patience.

    Hello Mohit,

    Thanks for the reply :)

I am using the WinCE5.0 image versus the PPC or SmartPhone images. I did build a custom image that closely matches our actual device.

Regarding the utility to ping the device, I just open the cmd window on the host computer and type ping with the IP address.

As I mentioned, initially this works but then it abruptly stops after the first minute. I start the emulator from VS2005 and as I see it has a network connection, I run ping about 3 times and when I did this, on the third attempt the failures occurred about mid-command.

Your help is greatly appreciated :)

    Hello Bob,

There isn't any known issue for the problem you are facing.

Since you have built a custom WinCE image, is it possible for you to share the image or share/point to corresponding BSP (you can mail me at mohit[DOT]gogia[AT]microsoft[DOT]com) . If not can you please debug the NE2000 driver a bit and give us a little more information on exactly where the problem is occuring in driver which would help us pin down the problem.

    Thanks for patience.
