    >> Isnt Sql 2005 Mobile Edition trhe same as SQL Everywhere

    Yes (http://blogs.msdn.com/stevelasker/archive/2006/04/10/SqlEverywhereInfo.aspx)

    >> Also, I would love to do this exam, but there just isn't any books out that cover the .NET CF 2.0 in the shops. They all cover CF1.0 and are about 2-4 years old. Does anyone know if there is a book coming out soon based on the CF2.0.

We have a book planned for Spring/2007.  You should see a formal announcement soon.

    thanks,

And you do need some knowledge of the underlying OS
  • Esper

    Hi Juan,
with this knowledge you have, you just need to know what is new in CF 2.0 and Windows Mobile 05 new APIs, plus some working with SQL everywhere..

you will not take long time to prepaire you self for the exam, you have the basic concepts, you need to know the new stuff and prepaire your self on using them.

    Good luck.

If this post was helpful, please select "Yes".

Hi, there is one (german) book from Microsoft Press (09/2006) for Windows Mobile 5, .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and the SmartDeviceFramework. It's Recommended by OpenNETCF and Avanade: Programmieren mit dem .NET Compact Framework. It includes about 140 examples and about 400 resources from the web. And... it comes with a tool for the examples and resources. I hope it will be translated. :)
    70-540..., I'm curious about it. :)
    Regards!

Uhmm, if the exam is based on the .NET CF 2.0 then there isn't a single book out on that at the moment, unfortunately. Though MS intend on releasing one early in the new year.

I guess .NET CF 1.0 books might go to some length into the Compact Framework, but I would loot at the MS articles on there site.

    Tryst

I took the test and it was a great exam, 81 very carefully crafted questions, almost perfect (some normal mistakes IMHO, but very good for a beta).

As I said before I’m not a device developer, I’m 100% Managed Developer, but I feel I pretty much aced this exam, I just have to wait until November when they turn in the results to know.

If you have a background in CF 1.0 and PPC2002 & WM2003 don’t worry you don’t have to find books about CF 2.0, try the MSDN Hands on lab, rory’s channel 9 screencasts (although pretty basic they go right to the point with WM5 new features) and undertake some projects of your own, and you’ll be pretty much good to go, as the exam focuses on the core principal of mobile development, not just in WM5 and CF 2.0.

Apart from that you need a good skill set in SQL CE and SQL Mobile.

    Hi,

Thanks for your post, i just entered the exam today, it contains 81 questions, and in my openion, they are not hard for any Mobile developer.

it is a really long exam but an amazing exam in the same time, although i mentioned some errors in the questions i'll try to report them to microsoft next.

We really tried to cram more into this exam, but as you point out, it's already long enough. In fact we had to cut some things, and it was painful. Could you let me know what are the errors you'd like to report. We have a review coming soon and it'd be a chance to see if we can have those addressed.

Jason Langridge in this blog post http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2006/10/07/WINDOWS-MOBILE-MCP-FOR-DEVELOPERS-BETA-EXTENDED_2100_.aspx says the 70-540 beta exam is back on, so I have a question one of you might be able to answer, what will happen with us who took the exam on the original dates Microsoft said final version would be ready in november, this means the final version (and my results) will be delayed until next year

    Hi Alex,

thanks for your interest in my feed back..
i noticed a couple of questions were using a path to a file inside the device, in the question they wrote the path like this "C:\\*****" and as u know there are no partitions in the device..

There are also some other questions were they gave an obviouse answer to the user, by giving a 3 very clear wrong answers and only one correct answer, u know, if i didn't have ay info, i was able to know the answer!!

forgive me i can't say the question here because of privacy reasons, and i don't rememmber them very well....

By the way, i entered too the exam 71-500, and this was really a disaster in my openion, if you need to know more about my feed back on this exam too, i'll be glad..

If you were able to take the 70-540 beta exam during its last run, your score will be kept and you will not need to retake the beta exam. This does, however, mean that your results will be delayed until the exam goes live.

    sorry for the delay,

    _howard
