Windows Live Messenger + SIP + Asterisk?

Hi,
Is windows Live Messenger able to connect to SIP server I saw older version of messenger supporting this but not in the latest version.

And is it possible to make a connection between Asterisk and Messenger For example, asterisk user calling MSN user based on their identity ( username@hotmail.com/live.com/msn.com)

Windows Live Messenger + SIP + Asterisk?

Hi there, we've got a bit of a dilemna with the advent of Live Messenger and Vista in our existing environment.

In short, we are using Live Communications Server to allow Instant Messenging via Windows Messenger 5.1. Apparently, this is not supported in Vista. On the flip side, Live Messenger which is supported on Vista doesn't use SIP so we can't use it with Live Communications Server.

We bascially cannot go to Vista until this is resolved.

What are Microsoft's plans on this

    Thanks...

Why not use office comunicator 2007

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/bb684921.aspx

That works with vista, and is designed to run with lcs.

So, there is no way to initiate a voice call to the msn network regardless of SIP/Asterisk

My company is in the same situation.

We would like to proceed with our upgrades to Vista, but we have a SIP server we need to continue using.

We don't have the resources right now to upgrade to the Office Communication Server 2007.

This is a major inconvenience as upper management relies heavliy on instant messaging.

I guess we will be forced to stay with Windows XP until we can find an alternative.

Sorry this is not supported. What you could do is have the msgr client call a ptsn number that is provisioned by an asterisk server.

Windows Messenger 5.1 can be installed on Vista, after installing it gives a message about incompatible would you like to continue anyways. I clicked YES and everything seems to be working fine. It communicates with SIP server, sends, and receives IMs. We are still in testing phase of VISTA also, but hopefully Micrsoft comes out with a messenger that has SIP capabilities soon so we we wont have to use software that VISTA dont like. Also VISTA says it wants to fix the problem by downloading Live, you tell it NO and dont ask again and it acts like nothing is wrong.
