Why does Segoe UI look so bad with Remote Desktop The non-Cleartype version of Segoe UI 9 point normal is not good.
When I look at notepad.exe the save/don't save message box (after typing text in an empty document then trying to close notepad) has a better font (except window caption), also when using Save As and choosing an existing file, the font of the "replace existing file" message box looks better too.
What font is notepad using in these message boxes Is it definitely not the same as the standard message box font (which is in non-Cleartype)
EDIT: I found out that with newer versions of Remote Desktop Client (eventually downloadable), there is a new option under "experience" tab that says "font smoothing". see: http://blogs.msdn.com/ts/archive/2006/09/08/747023.aspx . This will enable ClearType. Is there any way to detect in code whether this is enabled or not while in a remote session

the new remote desktop is out (installable under Windows XP) and it supports Cleartype.

Segoe UI and other new Vista fonts were designed for ClearType. The font you see in Notepad and probably each and there throught Vista that looks "ok" is either Tahoma or Microsoft Sans Serif. Those older fonts look ok without ClearType.
To find out if ClearType is enabled you can use
