If you are having trouble with your RC1 installation, look at this thread and the post by Serge for the order.
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=693261&SiteID=1
Also there is useful info on the Vista site about how to troubleshoot and known issues
http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsvista/support/relnotes/netfxRc1/default.aspx
One last thing, I have installed and uninstalled several versions so far and have found that this helps
- finish uninstalling all of the previous SDK's, VS Extensions, etc, etc
- RESTART your machine even though it doesn't ask you to
- now start installing the new version
I don't know why this works but when I've had problems installing on a machine, this generally fixes it

Hi Tom,
meanwhile I found a solution (or workaround) for my WinFX setup problem here:

I ran across a thread somewhere else that mentioned the same thing about AnkhSVN. Unfortunately for me, the computer I was having the trouble with is at a site where we use VSS for source control (at work), and that add-in has never been installed on that machine.
However, it got me thinking, so I went throught my add/remove programs looking for add-ins that aren't required on all team installations. As soon as I uninstalled GhostDoc, VS started working normally with the WF designers.
Apparently, there is something in certain add-ins (AnkhSVN and GhostDoc, and probably others as yet unidentified) that seems to cause VS to go into a "deep think" state when it attempts to load the WF designers. I never got a stack exception or our out of memory error, just 100% CPU utilization and stuck on the splash screen. Like an endless loop of some sort.

The tool was originally created for an old Avalon CTP build and should not be used any longer. They were not aware of this link to the tool and will be removing it. After uninstalling the Workflow Extensions can you look in the GAC for any System.Workflow.* files If there, go to "%windir%\WinFX\v3.0\Windows Workflow Foundation", right click on WF_3.0_x86.msi and choose uninstall. Now try installing Windows Workflow again.

Hi Tom,
thanks for the info. I looked into the gac, no system.workflow file and no WinFX directory.
I have successfully installed the WWF on my laptop. But its not as powerfull and comfortable as my main development machine (Dual Screen and so on).
So my problem is after installation of VS Extension for WWF my Visual Studio hangs and actual WinFX 3.0 doesn’t install on my machine.
Any ideas

Brandy, can you possibly post a link directly to the specific article The link you posted is to the blog's ATOM feed.
I'm having similar troubles with the new RC1 (which I also had with the July CTP and beta 2) and I could really use the guidance, but I don't even know what month in the archive contains the entry you were referring to.
Thanks.
P.S. Does anyone know if there's actually any work underway to try to identify and correct this problem in the designer installation

The reason I am looking for that is:
1.) I cant install WinFX Runtime
2.) When I try to use Workflow Extensions for VS 2005 my VS wont work. Splash Screen and 100% cpu.
I deinstallad nearly every VS ADD in (ankhsvn 4 example) nothing helped.
When I deinstall Workflow Extensions VS is OK again.
