I just launch DVD Maker, press "Add Items": it selects "Media Files (*.avi;*.mpg;*.m1v;...)" (this is the default filter).
I have an avi file, and it is listed in the dialog box as a valid file to import. I am not able to reproduce your issue.
Are you well using DVD Maker, the Add Items and the correct file filter

Whenever I try to add an .avi file, I am getting the error message that it is either an invalid file or the file is corrupted. It isn't in any way corrupted as I have viewed the whole avi file and there isn't a thing wrong with it. I have tried several different .avi files to repro this and get the same issue with every one. Does anyone know of any software that will convert .avi to .dvd in Windows Vista. I have tried ConvertX to dvd, but it won't read my dvd burner in Vista, but will in XP.

Hi Ready4u,
The only built-in support for DVD burning in Windows Vista is via the DVD Maker application. DVD Maker does support importing from a camcorder (perhaps via Movie Maker). Please try this out and let us know if you are looking for something different.
Thanks,
.

Crashes in Movie Maker and DVD Maker are typically caused by third party codecs which get put into our process when we render the video files. Fortunately you can tell Movie Maker and DVD Maker to stop these filters from being used within our processes. Try going to the Compatibility tab in MovieMaker and turn off the filters that appear and then try importing the files again.
See the following post for more details on what this does.
