I'm curious if others are having this problems - both VS2005 with sp1 and Vista update beta applied and the latest MSDN (August 2006) both exhibit a tremendous number of painting problems. By "tremendous number" I mean just about every time I expose the top level window one or more of the child windows exhibits a paint problem. Either the entire child window doesn't paint or regions within the window (one or several) don't paint. They may be empty or show previous areas or just show something from some other region on the screen.
It's possible to work through this by forcing paints with scroll bars, but holy cow is this bad. I've also notice the problem on other apps, but far less frequently. I've only been using the machine about 2 days so far. It's running retail Vista Ultimate.
This is a brand new "Vista Compliant" Dell Demension 9200 with 2GB memory and a Radion X1300 video (the video Dell recommended for Vista). I'm running into bug after bug where things don't work as expected. Just as an example, to find out what video card was installed so I could enter it in the last sentence, I opened Control Panel > System and the "Device Manager" link in the upper left was unresponsive. Other links were responsive. I was able to start the Device Manage by going into "Advanced system settings > Hardware". Another problem is that occasionally, when I click on somthing nothing happens for seconds. Very disconcerting.
Performance numbers are:
processor 5.3
memory 5.5
graphics 4.7
gaming graphics 4.2
disk 5.4
Is this normal behavior for everyone running VS2005 and MSDN on Vista Or, are there Vista tweaks I can try that might allow these development tools to run more normally Or, does this sound like defective hardware
