I use 1and1.com and a hosted exchagne account. My old machine (XP/Outlook 2003) could connect to the Exchange server using RPC/HTTP and a hotfix from MS.
Now that I have upgraded to Vista, I am not able to get to the Exchange server. is there a simlar hotfix that will allow the HTTP tunnel or is there some config in Vista that will let me achieve this using Outlook 2003
Bonus, I have a copy of Outlook 2007 which I would like to upgrade to as well, but 1and1 does not yet support this, at least not in tech support. In thinking this through, this is actually a windows issus vs. outlook (I think) so if i can get vista working, then theoretically Outlook 2007 shoudl work as well.

We would like to apologize for the duration it took us to reply back to your email, as much as we strive to respond to all emails within 24 hours.
To answer your query, actually it is possible to set up your exchange account in outlook 2007 however you need to follow the manual set up of outlook 2003 in order for your exchange to work.
Here are the information that you will need:
Username: e number (exxxxxxxxx)
Microsoft Exchange server: = ntxbeus06.nyc.schlund.de
and please click here for the detailed instructions:

I am having this exact problem with our 123together hosted exchange server. My desktop is running xp pro/outlook 2003 with ALL ms updates applied and has been running fine for approx 1 year. I have a new vista laptop and installed outlook 2003 fine and installed ALL ms updates. I can add a profile and edit the outlook exchange settings fine but when attempting to connect for the first time to the exchange server it keeps coming back wanting me to re-enter my password. I have retried this process 3 times to rule out user error with the same end results.
I have also stripped out all security and "fluff" from this vista to improve performance, 1 gig ram but going to add another gig, and configed nis07 to make sure it's not a firewall prob.
Something is going on here and I hope ms gets a sp out to address asap. I am willing to provide any additional info and will publically eat my hat if this is an error on my end.
tks and get me help fast!
p.s. - I have a imap account that I use also and it works fine on the laptop outlook 2003/vista combo.

HI Bruce,
I'm a newbie to these threads but getting an identical problem from my hosted Exchange provider, Webfusion - www.webfusion.com (owned by Pipex). I just called them and they said they don't support Vista, which is pretty unhelpful. If there is a fix on Vista that I can apply, would appreciate your help/ advice. Thanks, Alex

Thanks for your response. I think the issue is with Vista, not Outlook since the fix for this with Outlook 2003 was actually an instatll for Windows.
Where and how do I check the ports being used I am an admin on the system so Outlook should be running in that mode. Any other ideas
I am going to call my service provider today and see if they have any other suggestions.

Can someone else confirm that this fix works for XP and outlook 2007 with 1and1
Thanks!

Actually, the problem has been fixed after e-mail the 1and1.com exchange hosting support. The problem seems to be the default server address that they used doesn't work on "vista/outlook 2007" for some reason... they gave me a new address and I set it up on outlook 2007 manually and it works perfectly fine ever since.

I searched many places and the best I've found right this minute is that this has been a flagged as an issue and there is a suggestion that it's a configuration error but I've found no definative information at this time. I will follow this up with my contacts.
Here's a few avenues you can take into looking into this issue in the meantime:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402731033.aspx
(suggests have been made that the default connection type behavior may affect this issue)

http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/ISA-Firewall-Publishing-OWA-RPC-HTTP-Single-IP-Address-Part4.html
Try running Outlook as a admin and also check the ports used, is it 443 Firewalls etc.

Thanks for posing these. The odd thing is that I cannot resolve the hostname ntxbeus06.nyc.schlund.de. I'll call support and see if they have another hostname to use.

So it would seem the issue is related to how the hosted exchange server is configured to allow Vista/Outlook to work I am using Outlook 2003, wonder if the same fix for your 2007(not sure if you noticed I am using 2003) would work for my problem.
thanks for the reply!

Make sure you have all the service packs for Outlook. I haven't been able to repro this in house so far...
Here's the link to the office downloads area.

What address did they tell you to use for 1and1 I've been talking to support today and they just keep saying that Vista is not supported. If you could reply with the address that would be a big help.
