Hello,
I have a problem when browsing the time dimension (when cube cells have values)
I have a standard time dimension with the following levels Year-Quarter-Month-Day.
My cube has values for the years 2003 .... until 2006. 2002 Does not have values.
When I browse the time dimension for 2002 (the year where cube has no values), I have no problem..but when I browse the dimension for values in the other years.... I wait until 1 minut to make a drill down in the dimension Pane (whitout executing the query).
PS: I notice in SQL Server Profiler, that each time I browse the dimension in ProClarity, all my 80 partitions are read in the OLAP Server....without executing the query.
Thanks in Advance

Time Dimension Browsing Very Slow - ProClarity

Hello Thomas,
When you asked "First: Does this only happens directly after you have processed the cubes or have restarted the SSAS2005 service Do you see an improvement over time, as the same query executes several times "
The performance is better the second time I browse the dimension. I close Proclarity and open it again and the performance is OK. Only the first time I browse the dimension after processing... the performance is poor.
Sorry for giving you the wrong answer in a previous post.. and thanks for helping me!!
Thanks and Best Regards

About the post I refered the performance of time dimension is normal..... It was a mistake .. at the time the performance was normal because the process of my big partitions failed and the cube and less data in it.
I processed them correctly (with time slices for each partition) and the performance is slow. I must say that creating the slices improved performance because when I browse for example the year 2003....only the partition of the year 2003 are read in the olap server.....
But....What I really do not understand is that.. in BI Studio the browsing of time dimension does not makes the OLAP Server to read data from the partition of the browsed year.. about 10 partitions by year..one for each product..only in Proclarity.
PS: After browsing the time dimension ..when I execute the query in Proclarity.. the results are shown realy fast..I do not complain about that part.
Why will try to question the Proclarity forum about this...I will post any answers here.
Thanks for your time and Best Regards

Good to know. Then this is not the problem.
First: Does this only happens directly after you have processed the cubes or have restarted the SSAS2005 service Do you see an improvement over time, as the same query executes several times
Second: Is the key for each level in the time hierarchy unique You would see a strange user hierarchy with wrong quarters under wrong years, so I expect that this is correct.
Third: How have you partioned your measure groups are they sliced by time or not.
Last. What version of Proclarity are you using Is this a problem in Professional or web-Professional

Hello. If you are running SSAS2005 have you defenied attribute relations between Year-Quarter-Month-Day If so, have you defined them as rigid och flexible.
Check this is the dimension editor, if you expand the levels in your user hierarchy, that is the edit window in the middle of the dimension editor.

Joao,
There was an issue with the initial release of ProClarity 6.1 that may also be contributing to your browsing performance problem. Go to the "Help->About" screen and look at the full version number. If you are running 6.1.156.600 then you should upgrade to the most recent version which is 6.2.

Hello,
answering your questions....
"First: Does this only happens directly after you have processed the cubes or have restarted the SSAS2005 service Do you see an improvement over time, as the same query executes several times "
The performance is always slow. I dont take notice of any improvement each time I browse the dimension.
"Second: Is the key for each level in the time hierarchy unique You would see a strange user hierarchy with wrong quarters under wrong years, so I expect that this is correct."
Yes, each level has unique keys. The time dimension looks fine. The values match with my AS2000 cubes (I am testing AS2005 in order to migrate next year)
"Third: How have you partioned your measure groups are they sliced by time or not."
ooooops... I missed this part. I didn't see the slice option in the wizard ... and I saw a post that refered that manual slice did not existed in AS2005... humm.. you might say I was a jack-*** to believe that. I created the slices by Year/Product for my 80 partition and now the performance is normal!!! Thanks a lot Thomas!!!
"Last. What version of Proclarity are you using Is this a problem in Professional or web-Professional "
I am using Proclarity 6.1

Hello Thomas,
All the relation are rigid....
Year
Quarter
Month
Day
I dont understand how it takes until 1 minute to ProClarity display each drill down in the time dimension (in members with cell values) .
Note: the drill down is in the Dimension Pane. I do not even execute the query...I am Just browsing the Time Dimension.
