Error: Subreport could not be shown.

I work for a Microsoft Gold Partner and I am having a problem with subreports in SSRS 2005 SP1.

Essentially, I have a report that contains subreports. The main report has a table that passes a parameter to a subreport in each row. The report renders properly when I preview it in Visual Studio, but once deployed to the server it only renders the first subreport for the first row, and every subreport thereafter displays the error, "Error: Subreport could not be shown."

I tested each subreport individually on the SSRS sever and each executes and displays fine. I turned on traces in the web.config file and found some additional information:

Answer this question

Error: Subreport could not be shown.

Is the subreport generated by report builder and has a report parameter with default and valid values based on the same dataset query

I do not see any "sql server" or "reporting services" connections programs to which I can log a bug. Is there any other way to get assistance on this issue

Hey, I just tried that with my nwifes non-MS-priviledged Account and I can’t find it either. Seems thats you will have to be invited to put feedback on the portal. There is a link where you can post your questions (also this for your invitation) mailto:sqlconne@microsoft.(here_c0/\/\es_a_D0t_c0m)

Ok, the reports are based on a report model - which is equivalent to the report builder case if the default and valid value of a report parameter are based on the same dataset query off of a report model.

Please try to set the default value to a constant value instead of getting it from the dataset query. Then, before you republish the report to the report server, delete the old versions through report manager. Then republish and try to run it. It should work then.

The fix for the underlying issue will available in the next service pack.

This has been also happening to me. It happens when it fills up the multi-selection list default value (all) from a report model query. Then, how do I specify to return all the data by default

That is an important bug that should be addressed... it has already made me loose one full working day on the issue...

    Thanks!!

The aforementioned portal does not give me the facility to log a bug. I sign-in, navigate to the list of available connections, select SQL Server, peform a search for the error, but there is no "Submit Feedback" button at the bottom of the Search Results as described in the instructions.

    Hi,

this is definetely a bug. Please post your information about this at http://connect.microsoft.com with the reproducable script. THe stack trace seems to add a item in the hastable dictionary which already exists by key. You should get response of Microsoft for this bug when they are able to reproduce it.

    thanks!!

But by now it's not viable, it's a CTP by now and still has some issues, like the "Select All" bug...

    Thank you!!

    Hi Robert,

No.  The report and its subreport where both created in Visual Studio 2005, not report builider, and are based off of a report model.  They are, however, based off the same report model.  They execute fine in preview mode, and I am using the report model on the same SSRS server as when deployed.

You can try out the latest CTP release of the upcoming service pack 2: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/ctp.mspx
    It includes the fix already.

    Hi,

write a bug to the mentioned portal with pasting the error log file and describinf in deatil what you have done (also attach the rdl file which causes the error). Microsoft will come back to you if they pick up the problem to eventually gain more details or provide you with an interim solution.
