I am also getting this error message: exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occured in the application at location 0x7c812a5b Runtime error 217 at 0213ebf1. It happens every time I open Adobe. I tried to follow the posted instructions but could not find the Adobe.pdf lFilter. Where is this file located

Paul seems to have gone quiet or disappeared.  He has not responded to my last 2 messages.

Likewise the professional commercial fixers cannot solve the problem

Does anyone out there have a simple solution to this oxdeedfade runtime 217 error message

    See if this helps:

    1. Check to see if you have any 3rd party Ifitlers installed (Bungle - you can obvisously skip this step). If you do, please uninstall them - especially if you have the Adobe .pdf IFilter (which is now automatically installed with the latest versions of Adobe Reader). This should stop the errors.

    2. Please disable indexing of Microsoft Outlook. Then, shut down Outlook and restart. I would also advise shutting down and restarting WDS. If the error messages stop, you probably have an attachment in your email that is causing WDS to choke. If you can pinpoint the attachment (possibly an unusual file type) I would suggest deleting it - assuming it isn't needed. If not, you may need to turn off the indexing of attachments.

Let me know what you find.

Been geting the same error with IE 7 on shutdown. Updated Acrobat Reader - also disabled the Reader Plugin - also disabled Shockwave Plugin (the last thing I installed before the problem started occuring) - problem seems to be solved -

I'll reactivate one then the other - hopefully one is the culprit. In either case, it seems Adobe is the culprit.

    Hi all,

I've also started getting this message, though my gut feel is its not to do with WDS.

I've removed Outlook 2007 from the Search, and I still get the error when I try and get into Outlook 2007.

    Any thoughts anyone

    Cheers

How do I determine if Adobe has installed the ifilters

From posts, sounds like my problem may be caused by Adobe.

Thanks for the advice concerning Norton

My problem is that I do not have Norton installed on my pc!

Any more assistance would be welcome as I am sure that IE 7 is the cause of the problem.

I too got this error soon after installing WDS. It occurred while my files were being indexed, before I had executed any search query.

In my case, when this error message appeared, clicking on either OK or Cancel brought up the same error message again. After repeatedly clicking OK, i got the second error described in the above post. After clicking OK to clear this error, the first error reappeared.

In the end, I had to close all processes related to WDS (not only the WindowsSearchSafeFilter.exe process) to stop the error messages appearing. As I looked at the TaskManager process list, a new WindowsSearchSafeFilter.exe process spawned every 10 seconds or so.

I have no 3rd-party search filters installed.

    Dear Paul

I am a computer novice and have the same problem (oxdeedfade and runtime error 217)

Can you please express your advice of 11/6/2006 in easy to follow steps as it is rather complicated for me to follow at the moment.

I do not know how to check about 3rd party filters or disable indexing! How do you do this

After searching high and low for a long time, I was finally able to resolve this problem. It started for me after
installing IE 7.I had thought I had removed all of my Norton anti-virus files.
I learned from someone at Microsoft this isn't always the case. The
recommended I down load the Norton Removal Tool and run it. I did and now
don't have that message when I close IE 7.0 Here was the Norton web site to
    which I went.

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

    It offered me these options:

Download the Norton Removal Tool for your version of Windows.

    I use Windows XP/2000. DOWNLOAD

    I use Windows Me/98. DOWNLOAD
Save the file to the Windows desktop.
2 On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal tool icon.
    3 Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to
repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

I had to run it twice and the problem was solved.
