Windows Embedded in Kitchen Appliances - Possible?

Hi. I'm a fan of Windows and I've grown fond of Microsoft for many years. I mean--I've used Visual Studio, Microsoft Office, Windows Vista, UTStarcom PPC6700 (Alltel Wireless), Microsoft Exchange Server (for learning purposes with Windows Server 2003), etc. and I wanted to go beyond computers and smartphone/Pocket PC.

Is it possible to embed Windows in kitchen appliances (please no flaming/bashing; thanks) like oven, coffee maker, microwaves, toaster, etc. I mean--I'm serious about programming a C# application to check for status and give me visual feedback from those appliances!

It'd be so cool that I could tell an oven to cook my pizza at 350 degrees for 20 minutes and give me the feedback to my Pocket PC SmartPhone device! Plus, when washing clothes, the wahser machine will give status and let me know when it's time to put my clothes in the dryer and when it's finished, the dryer will tell me to fold my clothes and I'm done!

Can I say more I could mount a Samsung OQO UMPC and use Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition to program my custom graphical user interface! So like -- I came home from college and opened the door to the apartment. OQO would say "Welcome Home, Grayson!" with a button titled "Thank you!" So if I have any homework, I could hook up PPC6700 Pocket PC Phone to OQO and synchronize the tasks! Then, OQO will let me know the tasks I need to be doing and be done by the due date, so not minding Windows telling me what to do (for which ABMers (Anything But Microsoft or Always Blaming Microsoft which I hate to say this) hated it), which helps keep me and stay up-to-date.

So since I went beyond the scope of my topic, I'm wondering if it's possible to have Windows Embedded/CE in kitchen appliances

Hehe, I think getting a maid is a much better solution, and they may have extra services that can't be provided by machines, just be careful with the law suites.

Don't worry about machine taking over your job because you will end up doing more stuff in the end. Like I make many programs to shorten my co-wokers daily task from 2+ hours to 5 Minuts. She was like, thanks you so much. And then, later, she said it didn't make her job easier because she ends up doing more stuff since she has more time now. I made most programs for customer service. I thought I can make them service more customers without increasing human resources. Ironically, they hire one more guy and they still think that's not enough.

I think I want most house wares to have windows installed, but just not toaster, hehe. They can make coffee and keep it warn for me before I wake up. But just thinking I left my bread in my toaster overnight, getting roachs extra touch, wake up late, and finding a cold toasted roach bread isn't going to give me any appotiete. Shivers.

But firstly, I seriously hope I can install a decent cable reciever, A/V reciever in my computer. I hate my media setup. There is a A/V receiver, there is a media reciever (cable card build-in) for TV, a kareoke DVD player. And I have to use 4 controllers (plus speaker) to watch DVD, argh. If I can make one PC to do all that, I am blessed.

    Hi magical

and dont forget all the plugs and switches on your toaster/kettle/etc.....

I think you may be right about the maid......

Yeah it's possible, but no widely available appliances have such computer, and the really few I've seen with some kind of stuff have been prototype or for the rich people who don't know how to waste money...

But it's hardly possible. You have to override the appliance embedded computer to create an interface with the appliance (To interact with it) and when you succeed that, you can do everything you want...

The problem is to interact with the appliance, since it's wasn't created to be overrided by someone else.

Good luck, and if you ever succeed I want to see that!!!

    hey greyson

I was only joking...I love gadgets and windows and vb

I wish I had the know-how and the money to actually do as you say...

I would love my pc to make my coffee, or even turn my lights on and off....

but it does make one wonder where we are headed....

I,ll be pessimistic and say in 200 years.....there will be no jobs for anyone because windows will

    do everything......

you wont want your pc to make coffee because you wont be able to afford coffee never mind a pc

only the rich will survive.....but for how long........god help us all......enough said

    why ever not magic click

when the toaster is about to start it must be able to tell the kettle to make the coffee

and the fridgebox to find the butter and cream.....

where on earth are we headed...

That will be really nice, but I don't see much reason for making a toaster talking to PC or other device. I guess washing machine will be cool to send alert to a smart phone when it is done. There is MS Robotics kits which I think is pretty much what you have in mind. It deals with sensors in higher level and let you program robot and other machines.

Please...some people can be Windows-Freaks--like they'd like to have Windows everywhere!

Some people prefer Linux for kitchen/laundry appliances, but for me, I'm a Windows-freak-hi-tech guy! :)
