Performance problem

After trying WDS 2.6.5 during some days, I have a doubt concerning indexation perfomance.

In the beginning, the indexation was very fast. But now I don't see any significant evolution. At this time, 17046 documents are indexed and 23627 are waiting. During the last days, I put the computer working only in the indexation during 1 or 2 hours in a day, but I don't see any significant variation of these numbers. However I see that WDS is scanning files (at least it shows their names in the indexing status window).

Can anybody explain to me the one what happens

Thanks.

AJ - it's odd that indexing hasn't finished by now. It normally takes less than a few hours to index several thousand documents (assuming you are using a fast machine). Indexing is generally slowed or stopped when there are other processes demanding CPU time. In these instances, WDS "backs off" the indexer to ensure that it doesn't adversely impact the performance of your computer when you are using it. If you want to make sure that the indexing process finishes more rapidly you can select "prioritize indexing" under the Indexing section of the WDS options. This keeps WDS from backing off the indexing process when other processes are looking for CPU time.

You may also want to check to see if you have anti-virus software interfering with the completion of indexing. There are some anti-virus programs that continuously scan and update file information. This causes WDS to keep re-indexing those files. You can see if this is happening by disabling your anti-virus software and watching to see if WDS completes the indexing process more rapidly.

Today, very quickly, the number of indexed files changed from 17000 for about 35000. However, in the last days, as I already explained, it was without change at about 17000.

I don't see anything in the use of the computer that can explain this situation.

    Paul,

In the beginning I verified that WDS is very fast (at least on that occasion). I know that WDS activity is reduced when the computer is used by another application. Because that, when I leave the computer to index, I selected the prioritize indexing and disabled the antivirus. What I thing particularly strange is that the index status window shows the name of the files being indexed, but the number doesn't increase in a significant way. When I installed WDS (a few days ago) the computer already had the antivirus installed and the problem didn't exist in the beginning.
