Greetings all,
I am trying to figure out how I can use the old Search Companion in Outlook 2007 as opposed to being forced to use WDS (windows desktop search). Currently, I have gigabytes of email that stored in PST files on a server that is backed up reguarly. I have a persistently mapped drive that I use to keep those PST files handy in outlook, but since I am not always online, those gigabytes of email are not always indexed. I need to be able to use the old Search Companion to search my mail, but have not had any luck in finding out how to do it. At least in windows explorer, when WDS does not return any results, they have a link to search companion. In outlook 2007, if its not indexed and you have thousands of emails, you are pretty much screwed.

You can add those PST files on the server to your Outlook 2007 then disable indexing on those by going to Outlook's Search option. You need to restart Outlook after doing so. Then, you will be able to search your PSTs though it may take a while for the results to be shown.
Let me know if this works for you.
