Hi everyone! My current project is JimmyWidgets, a widget program like Apple Dashboard, but for PC! You can even make new widgets in DLL format and post em on the online database!

When I've made more widgets (I've only got 2 at the moment), I'll post it at www.jimmyware.co.uk . It's going to be open-source, so you can download the source from there too.

I await any comments/suggestions! (But please don't be too harsh about my efforts, it took me HOURS)

P.S. A list of problems I need to fix:

The online database currently lets you download the same widget twice, making startup time longer (because it tries to load 2 copies of the same widget)
The whiteboard has black edges rather than transparent
The widget icons (top of the screenshot) look rubbish
The widget uninstaller doesn't actually remove the DLL (widget) file, it just breaks the link to it
The analogue clock takes AGES (2 seconds) to start up
The screen flickers when the main form fades in and out
The tutorial isn't in-depth enough
The source code is cryptic and hard to read
There are only 2 widgets! (I'm working on 2 more as well)

and probably lots more that i forgot to mention

Great feature, but some others comments
- The calculator should be capable of taking the operators (+,-,*,/) directly from the keyboard.
- Is the widget will auto-update if a new version of this widget is available, if not, how to update that widget
- Do you have plan to translate your application, because I'm speaking french and I like to have possibility to have french application.
Like I say earlier, don't stop your good work!

it sounds catchy......and I agree with m4city...

if people get things for free....there,s no need to steal...

Really like JimmyWidgets, I can't wait to see the new widgets...

Here are some comments :
- Have the possibility to keep a widget on top, like ISay UListen
- When I double-clik on the clock, the time go away, and if I double click back, it's become ok
- It's would be great if we can have a preview of the widget(screenshot) when you install it.
- You should keep the name, I like it, but if you find a more commercial catchy name, go for it!!

About the name: If anyone has suggestions I'll happily change the name. It was only meant to be temporary anyway.

I'll release the software for free, but since the software took me quite a while to develop I've decided not to release the source.

somehow I'm not entirely certain "jimmy" and "widget" out to be in the same name/title, much less the same sentence ... that said, it looks decent.

nice screenshot, I'll check out the app itself from home.

Thanks for saying that the name is cool, I think I'll stick to using JimmyWidgets rather than changing it.

out of curiosity, not that I agree with comspy's take on this, but mp4city, WHAT MS software is anyone using that's free In order to DL most free MS software, you have to own (BUY) Windows to begin with (as WGA validation is required), and when you download the apps that ARE downloadable, you still don't get the source. In the case of SDKs where sample source is provided, it's SAMPLE source, not source for the IDE app itself -- which you BOUGHT to begin with. You've got me scratching my head here ...

Thank you for your useful comments.
- I will be adding 'always on' to all future widgets and to previously made widgets, which will be automatically updated with the update widget (still working on it).
- Unfortunately the double-click problem occurs as a side-effect of being able to drag any part of the widget in order to move it (rather than the title bar). This will be fixed for all future releases.
- I will include screenshots at a later date.
Check out the online database, I've uploaded a simple calculator (under Recommended Widgets). Tell me what you think!
