After I installed office 2007 into XP Pro 64bit, I can no longer use windows desktop search. When I open the search function I get a blank window.
If I use the smal Icon on the task bar a dialog says "This app...because MAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing..." Re-installing what app Office 2007

It may be tested but It doesn't search on my machine. I can search in outlook but it will not search my local drives. I can't even see the window on the left that contains the search criteria.
Should I replace the mapi32 I remember when I installed a beta of office and then uninsstalled it I had a problem with the same dll
Any suggestions

I was getting frustrated but it seems to work now.

Have you installed any other email clients on that machine, like Eudora

Ha, you said the magic word, "Exchange Admin tools"!
Exchange System Management Tools actually installs it's own version of MAPI into the system directory, which overrides the Microsoft Outlook version.

I had a similar problem and I, too use the desktop search and Outlook 2007. I'm not sure what caused the problem but I was unable to use Outlook - kept getting these errors

I tried safe mode, detect and repair and even a system restore. I ended up just creating a new profile and Outlook started working again.
What lead me to this post was that I am unable to search on anything in Outlook - there appears to be some kind of conflict between the Windows Desktop Search and Outlook 2007. I'll try to uninstall and re-install the search.

No Eudora - PC is a fairly recent/clean build with basic Microsoft stuff, including Admin, Support and Exchange tools, Office 2007.
I uninstalled Search 3.00, booted and installed the 3.01. It said it had ~3000 mail items to index for awhile - then now says there are 0 items to index and it's monitoring for new items. Searches for any Outlook content turns up nothing. Very odd.
