Ok, got it fixed using some of the processes posted here.

Quit Outlook and all other Office applications

Uninstalled WDS from the machine, rebooted.

Started Outlook and was prompted to download, which I did

Closed Outlook, installed the new download

Rebooted, and started Outlook, the checkbox was check and it appears that Search is functioning.

Thanks for the reply, ill give it a try. It doesnt want to uninstall Desktop Search, just keeps coming up with "Invalid Handle", so when ive managed to uninstall Desktop Search, ill give your method a try.

    Thanks,

    Craig,

There is one other issue you may be experiencing. Are you finding the "Outlook cannot perform your search" message when you run very simple searches - example: Dave

If so, are you able to retrieve results when you run more complex searches For example, "Windows Desktop Search"

If so, you might be running into an issue with 3.0 beta. When queries return too many results users are sometimes presented with the message "Outlook cannot perform your search." The way to get around this is to run slightly more detailed queries. We are fixing this for the final release of 3.0, but this is a limitation in the current beta.

Well, I did get to work by uninstalling desktop search from the Add and Remove Program areas. After that, without reinstalling 3.0, searchs started to work however Outlook was asking for me to install it everytime I start Outlook. I disabled this by going into tools/options/other/advanced of Outlook and uncheck Show prompts to download. It works now. Dont have a clue why or it this is right but I can search.

    Hello Tylerk,

I've seen this problem pop up when users install over older versions of WDS (for example 2.6). People have been able to get around this problem by completely uninstalling all versions of WDS from their computer (the older version AND 3.0beta). Once both uninstalls are complete, reboot your PC and launch Outlook. Outlook will ask you if you'd like to enable instant search. Choose yes and it will run a fresh install of 3.0 beta. Once the installation is complete 3.0 will start indexing in the background. Give it a day or so to complete building the index and your instant search in Outlook should work.

One note of interest here is: If you are using Onenote and would like to enable search through that application, you may need to reinstall Onenote after completing the above steps. This is because the uninstall of WDS deletes some of the registry keys that allow Onenote to connect to WDS.

I am experiencing the same issues as well. I also notice that when I go into the Search Options, the top check box is not checked and I can not check it. It is the checkbox to enable search on a particular mailbox, which I see my mailbox listed there, i just cant check it. Any ideas

    Thank you,
