WDS 3.0 Beta 2 doesnt index any files

It only seems to be indexing Outlook items for me. I explicitly went in and added a bunch of folders under the options but no dice. Matter of fact I think it indexed them at some point and then went and deleted them from the index since the "Indexing Status" number seemed to shrink. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but have the same behavior. Any ideas

WDS 3.0 Beta 2 doesnt index any files

    Hello All,

Thanks for the feedback on this problem. I'm wondering if you might be able to describe it in a little bit more detail.

    Here's what I know:

You are using WDS beta 2. You found that only email was being indexed. You then went to WDS Options and added specific folders to index. Those folders are not being indexed. The behavior you are noticing seems to indicate that WDS starts to index, because it increments the files left to index number. It then decrements the number very quickly.

Here are a few questions for you...

So you are obviously unable to run searches for any of the files in the folders you specified correct

From where are you entering your search query If you are entering the query in Outlook you'll only find Outlook items. If you are entering the query via the deskbar or the WDS UI you should get items from all of the places you specified (as long as you don't have the email filter specified).

What operating system are you using

Answers to these questions may help me diagnose the issue.

    Thanks again,

    Paul Nystrom - MSFT

Pretty much accurate description. Might be also worth mentioning that the list of folders i had added also disappear from the WDS options.

    Yes

From the icon in the task area (WDS UI) or using the search button on the Start Menu. And no am not using the email filter. In fact it shows me a message that the folder is not indexed so I might want to use the Search Assistant.

That is what appears to happen. Just tried a search for files I know have been on the system for months and for a directory I know I specifically identified and no match. The files are pdf, but I have the Adobe ifilter installed. And, I attached these files on an email yesterday and they get found as email attachments, but not the originals.

Entered from the deskbar and got one email attachment match displayed. Clicked the green "search desktop" button and the desktop client opened and there were *2* matches. Both email attachments and not the originals. Strange that the deskbar only found one (used ext:pdf sometext as the search).

I'm seeing WDS 3.0b2 seem to "forget" the list of folders that I specify to idnex. I've posted a note about it.

I am not a 100% certian of this yet but it seems like if you add one folder at a time and wait for it to be indexed before adding the next folder or drive it seems to stick. I now seem to have my hard drive being indexed.

Yup I am seeing the same behavior. Surprising no one from the WDS team or MSFT is commenting here. Cant find anything through Google either :(
