I've been following the Zune announcements fairly closely here at work. If you follow my blog, you'll see that I'm pretty passionate about media technologies, and recently went through the pain of migrating away from iPod/iTunes and onto Yahoo Music/Gigabeat S (Portable Media Center).
Here the blog category where I talk about it: http://blogs.msdn.com/joemorel/archive/category/13772.aspx
Now Zune is in the mix. It looks pretty neat, but I'm not sure if people are really going to go for the whole WiFi thing. I'm just not sure that I want to listen to the same music as the person sitting next to me on the bus.
What do you think

There will probably be too many issues with WiFi connectivity for it to really fly...

I've been researching bluetooth audio on and off since late 2005 ... hi fi bluetooth audio is not yet what it ought to be. heck, bluetooth audio barely even passes the "hi fi" benchmark to begin with. That being said, who cares about the fidelity of bluetooth audio when you're sharing music You're not sharing audio, you're sharing data ... aren't you Or is the Zune going to stream audio, not data, over WiFi

OK - I thought I saw EB Games in the US as well. We certainly have them in Australia.

I use a Bluetooth handsfree device in my car (not headphones) wired into the car radio. It's not stereo, and doesn't need to be, but the sound quality for phone calls is surprisingly good.
I've read that Bluetooth A2DP used for stereo music playback sacrifices audio quality - in theory. I suppose I'd have to actually hear it to see if it mattered to me. (Sometimes there's an advantage to being half-deaf in one ear - too many loud concerts in my younger days, I guess.

I'd expect to see them everywhere. Certainly, if they don't sell them into Canada, someone will import them, I would think.

well remember, some of it may be based on customer requirements
having a Wifi is a cool option but not a thing where you are forced to use it - these days, everything almost has wifi - the only thing needed is a wireless electric thing to power your PC!

its what the area needs no more overpriced ipods (that you have to buy addons to complete)
and being able to share songs with friends would be so cool
i am always listning to my freinds Zen and i say dude i want that song (but cant be botherd getting it)
so this would solve my problem entirley.

The WiFi option is interesting, but I doubt I'd use it to share music too often.
I was very disapointed not to see Bluetooth support, however. Both A2DP for stereo playback, and AVRCP for remote control of the device. I'd love to have a device that can connect wirelessly to a car stereo and can be controlled by the cars controls - and Bluetooth seems to be the logical technology to use for this (much as I can do with my wireless phone now).
I currently use an iPod connected to my car stereo via a wired adaptor, but can't control the device using the cars controls. This means that I have to have the iPod mounted somewhere where I can reach it and select tracks to play and such, and it just looks cluttered.
When I initially heard about the Zune, I was hopeful that it would tackle this seemingly obvious hole in the iPod armour. Of course we would then need car stereo manufacturers to start supporting it as well, but someone has to start...

I've had an iPod and hated it. I have a Muvo, and I love it. It holds a gig of music, the screen isn't so pretty that I get upset when it gets scratched ( in my other life, I have a hobby farm, and a player that takes it rough is important to me ), and the Muvo is so much smaller than an iPod, but still holds more than enough music for a day on a plane, or a day on the farm.
The Zune does WiFi Does that mean I can listen to the songs on your Zune if we're on the bus together Surely there are copyright issues with that I mean, if I can see it, surely I can copy it, if not out of the box, then by the time someone hacks it

Really - Microsoft are making a music pirating device That totally sucks. If you can't be bothered buying it, you probably don't want it anyhow.
