I just tried installing IE7 RC1 onto my computer. Symantec
anti-virus was disabled upon install. When I open up IE7, it
tries to connect, but freezes my system. Tab stuck in
Connecting... mode. The internet connection is set to Detect
Automatically and doesn't have a proxy sever. I was able to
connect previously when using IE6 and can connect without a problem
when using Mozilla browser.

IE7 RC1 hangs upon open - keeps trying to connect

I'm having the same problem with IE7, with a fresh installation and full service pack downloads. Browsing various threads, it sounds like droves of people have having the same problem - over, and over (do a google search on wlloginproxy.exe, and it will lead easily to threads about people confused why IE7 is 'hanging for 6mins' when started).
I do not use Yahoo toolbar (to my knowledge). If it was stealthily being used withou my knowledge, where would I disable it
I do use Google toolbar. It has worked beautifully form me, as intended, since it was released.
If both of these toolbars are having the same issue with the latest IE7 service packs, then this is a problem. Potentially a legal one.
Please advise. -EH

Don't forget you can right click in th IE icon, select property and get into the settings with out starting IE. Then go to Manage Add-ons. On our campus it was the Yahoo companion add-on that was causing the problem.
Hope this helps. =)

IE integrates so much with Windows that I can not browse my computer as well.
I also can not uninstall or reinstall it.
Can anyone help!
Thanks.

Yahoo Companion would appear to have auto-installed itself from one of the driver disks. I just un-installed it and all was well again.

Have you tried starting IE7 in no-addons mode To do so, right-click the IE7 icon on your desktop and then choose "Start Without Add-Ons." If you're able to connect, you'll want to use Tools | Manage Add-Ons to selectively enable and disable add-ons until you fgind the one that's causing the problem.
Hope this helps...
