Thanks for your reply. I did a reinstall and re-index and the problem seems to be solved.

I am having the exact same issue! I am using Outlook 2007 in cached mode with WDS 3.0 for XP. I have tried rebuilding the index, uninstalling and reinstalling, creating a new Windows profile,... but nothing works. Documents are searchable using the deskbar but no emails show up in the results. Instant Search within Outlook returns no results. When I disable cached mode I can search email within Outlook but not from the deskbar. When I re-index it usually stops at about 900-1000 items but scans a lot more (presumably the email).
Thanks,
Elliot

Can you give me some more information
What version of WDS are you running Are your office mails DRMed (do they have rights protection on them) Have you tried leaving outlook open for a while to make sure it isn't just an issue that the content isn't indexed
Is your outlook setup to cache content locally or is everything on the server
Sorry for all the questions :) I am a program manager on the microsoft WDS team and I am going to be helping out on the forums moving forward. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this with some more information. This should be working.
cheers,
Ed

Are you running Office 2007 with parts of Office 2003 still installed parts of office 2003 would include Front Page and other Office 2003 software. If you do, try to do an office repair for 2007 and see if you can index the emails then.
Thanks and let me know,
