Hi,
I have folowing issue with WDS 3.0 and I'm not able to find solution anywhere.
WDS is not indexing any files. The problem will be propably connected with file types, because when I try to open FileTypes tab in Indexing Options/Advanced Options I receive only message:
An exception occured while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "srchadmin.dll"".
In event log than can be found following messages:
"The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.
Context: Windows Application, SystemIndex Catalog"
and the second one:
"The content source <d:\dokumenty\> cannot be accessed.
Context: Windows Application, SystemIndex Catalog
Details:
The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)".
"D:\Dokumenty" is the only folder that is selected for indexing.
I have WinXP (SP2), Office2007, IE7.
Any advice
thx
Michal

Hello Michal,
Do you know if you're running 3.0 beta 2 or 3.0 release to market If you're running the beta version I would suggest uninstalling the beta and then installing the final released version of 3.0. A large number of bugs were fixed in the time between beta 2 and release. You can find the 3.0 released version here:

thank you for your hint, but I have the newest 3.0 version installed :(

I have the same problem. I was running a previous version of WDS 3.0 ( )
filename=WindowsDesktopSearch-KB917013-x86-en-US.exe (do not remember where I got this file)
It used towork fine, but then I decided to dowload a new version from Microsoft, hoping it would allow me to serach network drives.
filename=WindowsDesktopSearch-KB917013-XP-x86-enu.exe
This one would not index whatever, so I unistalled WDS and the re-installed usind the first executabl file.
Now it works, I can search for files and my Outlook 2007 provides me the instant search.
But srchadmin.dll clashes, and I cannot change the directories to index. The search taskbar dissapeared too.
Wouldn’t it be time to Microsoft say a word about it
Thank you.

Just finished installing 3.0 RTW. The problem ain't solved. Any help appreciated.
As a work around, I use the DesktopSearch.adm file to configure the options in the GroupPolicy editor on my local PC.

The file names of the installer are the same for all WDS 3.0 Beta, Beta2 and RTW. So, please uninstall your current WDS 3.0 and re-download the installers from http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx kbid=917013. Make sure you download the right language that matches the OS that you are running as well. Let me know if this solves the problem.
Thanks,
