zune not recognized by PC UPDATE FIXED PROBLEM-new sync cable fixed problem

My PC will not recognize my zune, any other device i hook up usb i getthe old DOng ding sound and it shows up. When I hook up the zune, I get nothing.

This is the second zune and third cable, it will not even charge on my PC and yes i have 2.0 usb.

Any help would be great.

Ok I notice i am not the only person with this problem. However duing some extensive research i happened to find out some useful information. For all of you out there that are doubting in Zunes capabilities like i am. Fear not. i have found a useful site to help you connect your Zune. Chek this out. It is very Very VERY VERY Helpful.

After searching around a bit, I found a small tip from someone who has 'fixed' the problem. It seems that the Zune also needs the occasionally 'power off'/'power on'.

If for some reason your Zune doesn't start charging when connected to a PC and your PC doesn't recognize the device, hold down the back and up buttons on your Zune until the screen goes black. You should see your Zune reset. If you have your Zune connected to your PC during this, you will see that Windows will immediately recognize the device.

sounds like a hardware issue with your PC ... how old is the mobo are you using other USB2.0 devices successfully

This is now also happening to me. My Zune is about 2 weeks old and has been working perfectly ever since. On Friday, I had a small issue where the Zune wouldn't connect to charge, however a quick disconnect and reconnect and it was fine.

However, tonight, I am having the problem again and this time, the Zune is refusing to connect at all. With all of the people on this forum having the same problem, I think maybe I'll return it and get a 30GB iPod video... (Atleast I didn't toss TOO much onto it yet...)

I tried it, it still doesn't help. I've tried everything on the zune help site and the windows help site. I guess I"ll call Zune again. Now it's between getting my money back for the Zune or getting a new pc. My daughter's ipod nano works just fine, but my poor son has a $250 fm radio!

the act of charging is irrelevant to whether or not your OS recognizes the device, USB2.0 power is simply 2 wires that feed into receiving wires in the device that typically run straight to a power supply. have you tried other USB ports are these front ports you're currently using by any chance (front ports have a greater chance of bad wiring, as they're typically not hardmounted on your mobo.)
