WDS and defaul Outlook profile

Hi,

After installation KB917013, WDS do not find in outlook 2003 (SP2). On attempt setup WDS for outlook i see following error :

"Windows Desktop Search has detected that you are using an Outlook profile that is not your default profile. Your Outlook folders can be indexed only when you are using your default profile.
To ensure your Outlook items are indexed, restart Outlook and select your default profile if prompted."

I have only one profile in my outlook.
Do you have any idea

Thank you

I do have that reg key, and the description Windows Search Email Indexer apears within the key, but when I look under Add-in Manager and Com Adins in Outlook I don't see that there. I also have nothing in the Disabled Addins list.

    I reinstalled 3.01 again (4th time), so that's what I'm running now.

Thanks again for your help and I look forward to any additional advice.

    Hi Vasek,

Is there any chance that your most recent installation of WDS is an upgrade from an earlier version of the same product We've seen this issue crop up when customers go from an older version (especially a beta build) to a newer version without first uninstalling the older version.

In this case, I would suggest completely uninstalling all of the WDS components and then reinstalling the the most recent version.

Oh, and yes I do have Outlook showing up under the Indexing Options control panel. It shows no exclusions, but it also says Indexing Complete and none of my email has been indexed.

Outlook 2003 indexing is done via an Outlook addin (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Search.OutlookToolbar).

Do you have any group policies that disables outlook addins from running  So what version are you running now WDS 3.01 When you go to the indexing control panel, do you see an Outlook icon in the indexing locations

May be a little late but I had same issue. To fix, remove WDS completely, be sure in Add/Remove Programs to check the box to Show Updates, in reverse order of install (remove last first). Then install the WDS 3.0 Beta 2.

    No problems for me since.

I am also having this problem, it tells me I need to use my default profile in Outlook. Here is the order of events:

    Installed Office 2003 (non SP2)
Installed Desktop Search 3.01 (or whatever the latest is)
    Removed 3.01 and rebooted.
    Installed 2.66 v2
    Applied SP2 for Office 2003

I still can't get it to hook into Outlook. I have only one profile, and one account (exchange) in Outlook.

I tried un-defaulting and re-defaulting my profile too.

I have removed WDS 3.0 beta, WDS 2.6.5, Office 2007, etc. and reinstalled them. I still get the same problem as reported by the original poster.

    Any more suggestions

    Hi vackol,

Could you please try something for me

    1. In Outlook, click on Tools:Options.

    2. Next click on the Mail Setup tab.

    3. Once there, click on the E-mail Accounts button. This will open an e-mail account wizard.

    4. From the wizard select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click next.

    5. Highlight your account and make sure it says "Default" in parenthesis under the Type column.

    6. If it does not say "Default" next to your account set it as the default profile by clicking the Set as Default button and then clicking finish.

    7. Once this has been completed try indexing again using WDS (you may want to restart your computer before trying this step).

Please let me know if this helps solve your problem. If not, we'll go back to the drawing board together.

I have on my PC WIndows XP SP2, Office 2003, SharePoint Designer 2007

I have the same problem as other people describe. I had WDS 2.6 running just fine, but was stupid to install WDS 3.1 ( I was hoping to get latest and greatest but instead got a completly different product wich seems drive lot of people go crazy). The MS KB says that it can be installed as an upgrade ( i.e without removing 2.6)

After that Outlook does not show up under indexing options. I did unistall/install. After that Outllok Expess showed up as an option but not Outlook.

I do not understand what previous reccomendations mean by saying "check Show Updates" in the Add/Remove program. If I do that , I see several dozens XP updates listed but none of them has WDS in the name.

Another user installed 3.01 here and is having the same Outlook problem I am having. Oddly though, on another 2 computers I have 2.66 running fine on my mailbox. 2.66 doesn't work either on my primary computer though.

    Help, pls!

When you removed 3.01 did you click on Show Updates and remove any updates first I was skipping this step which caused my problems.

AMAZING discovery ( sort of) …

I was busy typing complain posting about WDS 3.01 vs. wonderful WDS 2.6 and researching other Desktop searches as replacement…

Then I went to indexing options just to look one more time before uninstalling this damn thing…

All of the sudden I see Outlook 2003!!! And can specify all its subfolders.

Since I did not do anything except rebooting few times and let it sit, is it just a matter to let it sit may be of first kick-in rebuilding the index MS KB article does say that upgrading in-place will require index rebuild. So may be , if Outlook is not showing up as an option, solution would be just to start rebuilding index and see what happens.

I did not click Show Updates, but I went ahead and re-installed it and there we no updates listed. I did notice that with 3.01 installed again, it seemed to pick up Outlook Express, which is odd because I uninstalled that a while ago.

Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Chad
