Hello,
I've got a problem with my MSN Search desktop searchbox, I can't get it to be displayed on the taskbar. It displays fine within IE and Outlook, but not on the taskbar. When I try to get it activated by going to the desktop search options and then pushing the button display MSN desktop taskbar. Or right clicking on the taskbar -> toolbars -> MSN Search desktop it never works. What happens is that the keyboard language toolbar is displayed on de taskbar, and that is not what I want.
I've also reinstalled MSN desktop search. It worked before, I'm using it since it was first released as beta, constantly updated to newer versions. And at a time my workstation crashed, and since I can't get it working again.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Charl

I am experiencing much of the same issue with the WDS. However, I can not find the magnifying class you are talking about to make these changes...
I know it is installed as WDS is in my ADD/REMOVE, as well as in my program files, however it is not present on my taskbar...I also removed it completely from my computer and reinstalled it with no luck to it reapearing to the taskbar ...When I removed it, and opened up Outlook, it ask me to reinstall it anyway so I did it then...
I was wondering if you would be ever so gracefull to help me out in anyway to try and get WDS to reapear in my taskbar
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns that might help you help me
Thanks Much,

Nicholas,
The fact that Outlook prompted you to install Windows Desktop Search, tells me that you likely have the 3.0 beta preview installed. The Outlook 2007 beta points users to install the beta preview to enable instant search. Unfortunately, the WDS 3.0 beta preview does not have a user interface (you can only search from Outlook). That is why you aren't seeing WDS on your taskbar. I would suggest that you uninstall your current version of WDS and install WDS 3.0 beta 2. This version of the beta comes with a full user interface and will allow you to search from the deskbar (as well as from Outlook).
You can find the 3.0 beta 2 download here:

One thing to note is, if you uninstall the beta preview and then start Outlook before you install beta 2, Outlook will prompt you to enable instant search. Do not enable instant search. Instead, go to the link I provided above and install beta 2. Once this is done Outlook should not prompt you to install WDS any longer.

Hello Charl,
My apologies for the delayed response. I've run into this issue a few times. I've been able to fix it by right clicking on the WDS icon (magnifying glass) in the system tray and the selecting "Desktop Search Options." Once there, I click on "Deskbar" in the nav pane and then click the "Restore Defaults" button. I hope this helps.
