Hello,
I've just downloaded Visual Studio Team System Beta 2 and started "looking into" the Team System features but was unable to locate the Distributed System Solutions project types when creating a new project.
Where can I find these
Thanks,
Scott Mead

Hello Scott,
As Elona mentioned, not installing C++ should not cause this problem.
Here are a couple of things that you can check for us and let us know.
1. We can try adding the Distributed System from "Add New Item" option as follows
File --> New Project --> Other Project Types --> Visual Studio Solutions --> Blank Solution.
Then right-click the Solution in Solution Explorer and "Add New Distributed System Diagram"
Does this work for you Do you see the templates here
2. The other thing you can try is to make sure that these templates exist on your machine. For this check if the following folders exist:
a) "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\DistributedSystem" - this has 6 files
b) "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\Templates\DistributedSystem - has 4 files
3) During setup, did you customize or deselect anything

I downloaded the VS 2005 Team Suite Beta 2 from:
https://msdn.one.microsoft.com/Subscriber/1033/topic.asp path=CC-0-1-17-1-0-6&FID=650514
I didn't customize the installation, however, it did fail on the last step when installing SQL Server 2005 express addition.
I selected the VB Programmer profile, but I have since changed it to some of the other settings and it didn't make designer templates show up either.
I did an uninstall of all of the products (ie. VS 2005 Beta 1, 2.0 CLR and others identified by microsoft) before installing Beta 2.
Thanks,
Scott

One thing that I just realized was that I did not install C++ when loading VS 2005 Beta 2. I installed VB, VC# and VJ#. Could this be the problem

Let me know if either of these work.

Ok, I tried the two commands (devenv /resetuserdata and devenv /setup) and neither seemed to produce the desired Project Types. Any other ideas

Thank you for your response.
1) After I created the blank solution, I right clicked on the solution in the solution explorer as you suggested, but did not find an option for 'Add New Distributed System Diagram'. The only options I see under the 'Add' menu are: New Project..., Existing Project..., New Web Site..., Existing Web Site..., New Item..., Existing Item..., and New Solution Folder. If I select 'New Item', I still do not see an option for Distributed System Diagram.
2) I reviewed both of the directories that you referenced and they do have 6 files and 4 files respectively.
3) The only thing that I de-selected after the initial install was C++. I have subsequently installed C++ and as you suspected, it didn't correct the problem. The only other issue that happened during the install was that SQL Server 2005 express edition failed to install and am unsure why at this point. I don't know if this has anything to do with me not seeing the desired templates.
Thanks,
Scott

I have a couple of questions that might help us troubleshoot this and get this working for you.
What link did you download from
Did you customize your installation in any way, or did you do the complete install
When starting VS, which profile did you select
Was this installation done on a clean install of Windows, or had you uninstalled a previous verision of VS
Thanks!

Hi Elona,
SQL Server 2005 has never been installed on my system. I do have SQL Server 8 running on my system, however.
Also, I am currently running the VB Developer settings and still do not see the right click menu option as described in the previous post.

You should be able to see the various project templates by clicking File, New, Project and then choosing Distributed System Solutions under Project Types in the New Project dialog box. Does this heading not show up in your build
Thanks!

Hi Scott,
Is it okay if we take this offline and debug this further Would it be possible for you to send me a mail at jyosri@nospam.microsoft.com (do remove "nospam").
Thanks,

Here's some more information on the SQL installation issue from a colleague:
"If SQL Server 2005 is/was installed on this machine, he may experience problems trying to install SQL Server Express. This is a known issue.
He needs to check the About box to see what he has installed and to ensure he's not running the SQL Server instance of Visual Studio, if that was installed.
Finally, on the Tools menu, click Import and Export Settings and select General Development Settings or some language-oriented settings in the event he chose Project Management Settings when he first started VS."
