I obtained VBE 2005 in a looong download. I registered it using my real name. I accessed the VBE forum using a fictitious name. I want to obtain the free VBE book "Writing my first program" but when I try to obtain it I get a page stating I have no permission to get it and it gives me a long coded value that looks suspiciously like something in the Windows registry. It offers me a change to contact someone and use the entered code as a reference.
How do I complete the process to obtain my free copy of the e-book, preferably downloaded
Please respond to old7t1@msn.com Thank you.

Yep... got confirmation e-mail below, but apparently that is not sufficient, as the list of available downloads is still not displaying the book. and yes, I used the correct Live ID when registering.

Do this, copy your link to the VB download like I did with my list, I will log-in into my LiveID and see if it is available for me, maybe is not in the list, but it may allow for me to download it. Definitely there is a bug here got the e-mails, got the key, add the key to the program and still nothing.

You should not be too late, and Weston works for Microsoft so you are already in contact with them.
Some other users have reported that they have had to update their profile first for it to work, or work faster. As Weston already suggested, start at the connect site at http://connect.microsoft.com
Login using the same live id/passport you used to register VB Express.
On the bottom left you should have a link to manage your profile, check and save your profile.
Browse to your connections (My participations)
You should have an option Visual Studio 2005 Registration Benefits Portal. There you can download your benefits.

I can still see the VB eBook. Did you register VB Express You must register the product that is connected to the benefit to be able to see it. For instance, if you only register C# you will not see the VB eBook.

Thank you, Weston, for your reply.
Yes, I did register VBE 2005 after installing the iso that I downloaded. In fact, since I met with the "The content that you requested cannot be found or you do not have permission to view it" message on the same day I installed VBE 2005, I waited for one complete day and RE-REGISTERED! Again attempting to connect I got the same message. I corrected my personal profile (it was missing my street address) and tried again. I continually get the above message along with a 32-character code that Microsoft wants me to use when I contact them. The code looks suspiciously like some of the stuff I often see in the registry file of Windows. It might be a message or date identifer, I don't know. I have not contacted M$ yet, partially since this is my 1st attempt at using VBE, and partially since I really don't expect any answers from such a gigantic corporation. I have read many of the early forum posts about registering VBE and most, if not all of them, appear to have had the same trouble obtaining the free e-book, not only for VBE, but also for C#. I have no interest in C#, or any other variation of "C", but I would like to dabble with VBE (I am a hobbyist). I did receive an email confirmation of my registration each time. BUT! Still no valid links to the free e-book on the registration benefits portal. Must I now contact M$ Could you, or anyone else that might read this question, please offer me some help Am I too late because M$ has withdrawn the offer for the free e-book
Any reply will be greatly appreciated.
