Error installing

When installing "Microsoft Visual Studio Code Name “Orcas” Community Technology Preview – Development Tools for .NET Framework 3.0" (vsextwfx.msi) from 7/17/2006, I get an error message:

Setup has detected that a prerequisite is missing. To use Microsoft Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas" Community Technology P...0 you must have the .NET Framework 3.0 runtime installed. Please install the .NET Framework 3.0 runtime and restart setup."
(See screenshot here)

Then, the setup must be exited.

Before this Orcas, I successfully installed the following components, as described here:
So I thought I have everything needed, but it don't seem so

Maybe the RC is too new for the (older) Orcas setup to be recognized

I have even tried with Filemon and Regmon to inspect what the setup is searching for, but finally gave up.

Any hints, please

Thanks
Uwe

I tried that new installer but it complains that I do not have the 3.0 framework installed (even though I have the 3.0 RTM installed) and gives the same error message.

I am having this same problem now with the RTM version of .NET 3.0 (just released today). Here is what I did:

    1. Un-installed the 3.0 Framework (the RC I had installed)
    2. Tried Un-installing the Microsoft Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas" Community Technology Preview - Recieved the error message
    3. Installed the RTM .Net 3.0 Framework
    4. Tried Un-installing the Microsoft Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas" Community Technology Preview - Recieved the error message
    5. Tried running the installer for the newly downloaded VS Orcas tools, and still received an error message.

Do I need to somehow get the exact version of the 3.0 framework on my machine that the old Orcas tools are expecting in order to un-install Does anybody have any insight on how the installer determines if you have the 3.0 framework installed or not

    Thank you for any help.

I am having the same issue.

Is this due to the fact that the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable Package was published on 11/08/2006

While the Visual Studio 2005 extensions for .NET Framework 3.0 (WCF & WPF), November 2006 CTP was published on 11/06/2006 (2 days earlier)

I have had the same problem when installing as non-admin user; install was successful after logging on as admin. What would Keith Brown think of this The install does complain about installing documentation and .NET 3.0 from the SDK but it does advance to the next install step.

    Good luck!

The new version (RTM) of orcas tools is here and should work. (it went throught a name change):

I am still expriencing the 'prerequisite is missing' message.

I have run the WinFX uninstall tool.

I downloaded all the .NET 3.0 on Sept. 30th.

I have installed the .NET 3.0 runtime, Win SDK, VS SDK sucessfully.

    Thanks

Just want to let you know I have the exact same problem. Installed .Net 3.0 RC1 runtime, Windows SDK for RC1 and then the VS Dev tools which failed.
  • Ska Software

I also have had exactly the same problem with the RTM version of .NET 3.0.

Is anyone monitoring this thread I am having the same problem and I have installed the RTM of the 3.0 redistributable and I have un-installed the windows SDK I had previously installed. Seems like no matter what I do I still get the error when I run vsextwfx.msi saying that the 3.0 framework is not installed.

Same here. Everything seems to run fine (e.g. XAMLPad works) but dev tools failed to install, ".NET 3 missing".
