Go into Registry Editor (Start, Run, "regedit"). Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Office, 11.0, Delivery. There should be only 1 directory under Delivery, which is your DownloadCode (mine was 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9). Select that directory. On the right side of the screen, right-click on CDCache. Change the value to 0.
honestly works with out a hitch.

One suggestion...
When I went into the Delivery directory, I had four "download code" directories, which were identical. I turned the CDCache value to "0" in all four. After exiting and restarting, it still didn't work. So, I exported then deleted the extra 3 versions of the CDCache. Then exited and restarted. It worked fine then. Thanks for this great solution to this very pesky problem.

Hi,
I had the same problem with the Error 1311 after the regedit.
Do you have more than one Download codes
Because I had 4. The 1st one is different than the other 3. So what I did...
I deleted the 1st one only & changed the value of the CDCache of the 2nd one from "2" to "0". Try this! But make sure you back up the 1st one before deleting in case it doesn't work with you.
Good Luck!

This is sooooooo awesome! Worked like a charm. This after four days of calling Microsoft, enduring endless hours on hold, and trying to obtain a fix from someone who barely speaks English!!! It was maddening!
Thank you!!!

Hi,
After many other tries , I went to the Control Panel, switched the Auto Update OFF, then went to the installed software and uninstalled all the upgrades (7) that happened the day before, the Explorer 7 has been uninstalled before with no results. Uninstalled these upgrades, I restarted the PC and endly all was again OK, excel and all works again OK.
Sorrily I have no copy of what I uninstalled, probably there is a log somewhere, but I do not care for. My pc is endly working again, that's enough. But I do not trust the auto upgrades anymore, hi!

Hi ,
Problem SKU011.cab after an auto MSupdate, and among others things it invited me to install MS Explorer 7. Sorrily I did it. After that MS Excel did not open anymore, nothing to do with installation CD . Tried after disinstalling the newly installed explorer 7, same behaviour. I searched on ms for a solution , and went to your message. I did as you indicate, the value on cdcache was 2 , I changed it to 0 and then close the REGEDIT. Try to open the Excel file and still it started the installation. But this time it gave another error: Errore 1311 . Impossibile trovare il file di origine C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000410-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\MT561402.CAB . Assicurarsi che il file esista e di disporre dei relativi diritti di accesso. This means more or less in english: " Error 1311 - Impossible to find the file C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000410-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\MT561402.CAB . " and so on . I point your attention to note that my MSOffice drive and start drive is not the C: but D: drive! May you help me Thanks.
