You can see the "Why VS" topic here http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718954.aspx. Visual Studio was created to provide developers and IT professionals across the world with the following:

    • A comprehensive tools product line
    • Reduced development complexity
    • Productive and integrated lifecycle tools that increase communication and collaboration
    • A vibrant partner ecosystem
    • A broad range of .NET Framework-based solutions, including mobile solutions, Windows applications, Web sites, and Web services

I wonder why you ask that question.

Visual Studio have affected many programmer that they can make new software with some new feature or faster way to program.

Take XNA for example, it is faster when I compare without it.

So, I think Visual Studio is worth to be created, then again I thank Microsoft for that.

Well, in basic terms, so that they have an application development environment that they can sell for lots of money.
In broader terms, so that more people will be able to make powerful applications in Windows, instead of tools such as DirectX being solely open to Microsoft.
A very broad question, and I doubt I can provide a definite answer.
