Custom Control Support in Cider

Hi,

What is the timeline in Cider for support a Custom Controls Actually ( RC1 )

  • Not parse the xaml for custom controls
  • Not Add the custom control the the toolbox automatically like Winforms provided
  • Not load and show the custom control on the designer
  • Not manage correctly the Namespace, load correctly the NS if I reference externally the assembly, no project reference.

This feature list is very important for any custom control's maker! :-(

    Andrea,

I just wanted to let you know that the custom control development experience is a very important aspect of Cider. However, I hope you understand the we cannot disclose any information about our development schedule and the timeline of individual features.

I haven't seen any timeline for Cider but the thing is that it's NOT RC1. Unlike .NET 3.0 that is RC1 and will RTM by the end of the year, Cider is part of the Visual Studio 2007 which will be ready probably in late 2007... so they have about 1 year to fix these problems

    Mike,

    thank you for the response!

True, cider aug 2006 ctp is not the rc1... I have linked (wrong) directly with the .net framework 3.0. :-)

Well, in fact I DO NOT understand why it is such a big deal to disclose ANY information It seems Microsoft became such a huge beast that corporate paranoia, legal department, and bureaucracy replaced common sense... Can you or somebody else from Microsoft tell us why it is not possible to disclose those timelines
Is Microsoft afraid that it won’t be able to reach those targets Then Microsoft should say, “It will be made NOT EARLIER than Month/Quarter, Year”. Point! No responsibility intended! (Or should I say, "No pun intended" )
Or is Microsoft afraid that competitors will release competing products before those dates No comment...
Microsoft became Microsoft because of the developers’ community, and that community probably deserves to know, when it can EXPECT tools as this information is critical for decision making.
Thank you very much in advance for your answer.
